The event takes place on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. in front of the UCF Arena. This week’s film is True Grit, which is about a U.S. Marshall who helps a girl track down the person who killed her father. The event is open to all UCF students and is free of charge. Financial Series hosts Money Matters event Part of the Financial Series, the Money Matters event will help students efficiently manage money while offering advice on ways to increase income. Police say Helen Staudinger of Fort McCoy went next door Monday to visit her neighbor, Dwight Bettner, 53, and grew angry when he wouldn't kiss her. She then allegedly fired four rounds into Bettner's house from a semiautomat- ic pistol, shattering a win- dow. No one was hurt. Fla. Gov. Scott orders state employee drug testing TALLAHASSEE Florida Gov. Rick Scott ordered drug testing Tues- day of new hires and spot checks of existing state employees under him, but civil rights and labor lawyers questioned whether the directive was legal. Scott issued an executive order requiring each of his agencies to amend its drug testing policy within 60 days to require pre-employment screenings of all job appli- cants and random testing of the existing work force. LOCAL & STATE Keep local with headlines you may have missed Transparency in student government and academic initiatives were some of the highlights of the Student Government Association’s elections for president and vice president formal debate. The debate was held in the Key West Ballroom of the Student Union on March 21 at 7 p.m. For the first time, the debate was broadcasted on the SGA website. Presidential candidate Nicholas Gurney and run- ning mate Fernando Gon- zales kicked off the debate by discussing their seven key platforms, the first of which being a focus on the improvement academics. “Students don’t come to UCF for SGA or events like this, they come to UCF, first and foremost, for an education, so that’s why we made this the first priority of our platform,” Gurney said. If elected, Gurney and Gonzales said they would like to implement their own library project that would expand study space and make the library more advanced. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., starting in front of Millican Hall, NOW at UCF will host “Take Back the Night,” a march through the breezeway to the Student Union’s patio stage, travel around the Union and head back to Millican Hall through the breezeway. Vice president of NOW at UCF Kelly Quintero said they’ll be chanting as they march, letting people know that they’re there to take back the night and stand up against violence against people. “For us it’s a really big event because we want to make sure that students at UCF know that there are resources available to them,” Quintero said. The event will feature speak- ers, survivors — one of whom was on Oprah—acoustic performanc- es, spoken word and information regarding resources for victims. The fifth-graders who attended the Achieve a College Education Day March 21, however, see university life as a far- away, yet attainable goal. Hosted by the Burnett Honors College and spon- sored by WORKFORCE Central Florida, the ACE event allowed more than 500 students from five Orange County public ele- mentary schools to spend a day at UCF, tour the campus and participate in various hands-on activi- ties. “We want them to understand that they can come to college and study all different types of things,” said Kelly Astro, director of Research and Civic Engagement at the Burnett Honors College and ACE coordinator. “The focus of this event is on STEM — science, tech- nology, engineering and math — but we want them to walk away knowing that they can study whatever it is they want.” Students were split into large groups with names like “Discovery” and “Pride,” each of which were assigned volunteers from the Burnett Honors College and the LEAD Scholars program. Police say unrequited loveled to woman’s arrest

OCALA — A 92-year-old Florida woman is jailedafter police say she firedshots at a neighbor whorefused to give in to herdemands for a kiss.

Police say HelenStaudinger of Fort McCoywent next door Monday tovisit her neighbor, DwightBettner, 53, and grew angrywhen he wouldn't kiss her.

She then allegedly firedfour rounds into Bettner'shouse from a semiautomat-ic pistol, shattering a win-dow. No one was hurt.

Fla.Gov.Scott orders stateemployee drug testing

TALLAHASSEE —Florida Gov. Rick Scottordered drug testing Tues-day of new hires and spotchecks of existing stateemployees under him, butcivil rights and labor lawyersquestioned whether thedirective was legal.

Scott issued an executiveorder requiring each of hisagencies to amend its drugtesting policy within 60 daysto require pre-employmentscreenings of all job appli-cants and random testing ofthe existing work force.

Hosted by the BurnettHonors College and spon-sored by WORKFORCECentral Florida, the ACEevent allowed more than500 students from fiveOrange County public ele-mentary schools to spenda day at UCF, tour thecampus and participate invarious hands-on activi-

ties.“We want them to
