Guided Tour

Explore the idyllic childhood haunt of J.R.R Tolkien by taking a tour around one of only two surviving working watermills in Birmingham and gain a unique insight into the lives of the 

millers who once worked here.  

Find out about J.R.R Tolkien’s early life in Birmingham. Both the mill, and nearby Moseley Bog, were inspirations for his 

classic works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

RJ Academy of Singing & Dramatic Arts 

Our mini superstar class for 4‐ 7 year olds is designed to introduce young ones to singing and performance in a fun and exciting way, without the pressure of exams and the one to 

one tuition.  This group class meets every Friday at 3.45pm for 45 minutes and works on songs from musicals and Disney

Family Activities Marquee at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage 

The Family Activities Marquee at Anne Hathaway’s Cottage offers 

hands‐on experiences for all ages.  Enjoy Shakespeare and Nature 

themes through games, quests and crafts. 

There’s always something new to try in the marquee with hands‐on, 

interactive activities added throughout the year. 

The marquee is engaging for young and old alike. Families often 

spend as long as 2 hours in the marquee trying out all of the activities 

and all crafty creations can be taken home! Everyone who 

participates in our activities will be given a certificate and a sticker.

The Elgar Birthplace Museum 

We are holding an art workshop celebrating animals, plants and 

insects who live in the Worcestershire countryside on Friday 3rd 

June from 11am to 4pm. 

 Families will be encouraged to decorate animal, make Flapping 

Butterflies and design Models Owls! 

The museum will also be running a Countryside Trail throughout 

half term week for children aged 5 and above, where families 

have to find images of birds and animals in exhibitions and study 

plants. The trail will lead families through the Elgar Centre 

museum and Birthplace Cottage on a quest to win a small prize! 

Event and trail free with museum admission. Children must be 

accompanied by an adult at all times.
