Math Unit 1 We are wrapping up our first unit in math! We

are looking forward to sharing all of the knowledge we have learned on our first test on Thursday, October 6th. During the first unit we have worked on building routines in our math block. We learned about our math maintenance warm ups, tool kits, math boxes, slates, and manipulatives.

Unit 1 was a review of our schema, or what we already know from 1st grade. We reviewed the number grid, skip counting, money amounts, and a few basic addition facts. We are working hard to continue to build our fact fluency through Xtramath. We really enjoy versing other classes on Fridays in our fact fluency game. Be sure to ask us about it!

the month of September we worked hard to gather ideas during writing that we will use throughout Writer’s Workshop this year. We have covered our Writer’s journals, created lists, time lines, heart maps, and drawn pictures to brainstorm topics we can write about. Now

building our knowledge during our unit on communities! Students have learned that a community is a place where people live, work, play, and solve problems. We have learned about the 3 types of communities: urban, suburban, and rural. We are currently learning how to vote for leaders in the community like city council or leaders of different clubs in our community. We even talked about some of the leaders that are running for president. At home be sure to share your voting experiences with us! We would love to hear stories about how you have voted for different leaders and
