What is Sound?
A Pressure Wave Longitudinal wave
– needs a medium
Points of low (rarefaction) and high (compression) pressure
How do we capture or “record it?”

Recording Begins in the 1800’s
Wax cylinders Capturing acoustical
energy and storing it on some medium for later replay.
Transduction– The conversion of one
form of energy into another, e.g., acoustical into mechanical shown here.
CAETN - E-Learning 20076
Recording - the Microphone
Mics are TransducersSpeakers are Transducers
What we do in between – e.g.,editing, adjusting, copying, pasting, uploading our audio, eventually has to be retransduced so we hear it.
We need a good signal at thesource of the recording or allother steps are compromised
CAETN - E-Learning 20077
Recording - the MP3 Recorder
Built in Microphone Records Voice and FM
radio Allows retrieval of
podcasts so you can listen to programs, lectures, music “on the go.”
Let’s try ‘em out!

Blogging 101
What is a blog? A blog is a web page Frequently updated posts that are
arranged chronologically The content and purposes of blogs
varies greatly Blog posts are like instant
messages to the web. An Example
– http://trainingforchange.blogspot.com/– http://tfctryouts.blogspot.com/
Many blogs are personal, "what's on my mind" type musings.
Others are collaborative efforts based on a specific topic or area of mutual interest.
Some blogs are for play. Some are for work. Some are both.

More on Blogging
Excellent team/ department/ company/ family communication tools.
They help small groups communicate in a way that is simpler and easier to follow than email or discussion forums.
Use a private blog on an intranet to allow team members to post related links, files, quotes, or commentary.
Set up a family blog where relatives can share personal news.
A blog can help keep everyone in the loop, promote cohesiveness and group culture, and provide an informal "voice" of a project or department to outsiders.
