Assignment #1(worth 5% of your final mark)

• Choose a recent paper on cell biology (2006 or sooner)• Create a poster style presentation to summarize the

work• Scientific 50%• Communication 50%

• Appropriate for audience (1st year biology students)• Articulate how this paper relates to your future

interests– Due September 26th

TITLE :Your title for the paper, should not be the original titleYour student number

ABSTRACTIn your own words, highlight the key concepts of the paper, and relate it to your interests.

RESULTSInclude key findings of the paper, use graphs, pictures, tables etc. where appropriateAll figures must have figure legends so that the audience can understand the figure. Bullet points are fine but must be easy to understand

DISCUSSIONSummarize the significance of the results, and how you may use it in the future.

ReferencesFull references for your paper in this format:

Plett, J.M., et al. (2009) Ethylene receptor ETR2 controls trichome branching by regulating microtubule assembly in Arabidopsis. Journal of Experimental Botany 60(13)3923-3933.

Also include references for any other paper used, links to any figures/information taken from website

General comments about the assignment1. Poster must fill a standard 81/2 by 11

inch page2. Must be cell biology and found in one of

the journals listed on the next page.3. Must be presented in this format

(landscape or portrait) with a minimum of 10 pt ARIAL font

4. Should include pictures/graphs, these can be downloaded from the journal.

5. Ideal if you can put your own figures in the graph to summarize.

7. References can be included on the back of the poster or a separate page
