Field craft Training Manual

1. Purpose

To deliver a training course so that candidates will have the appropriate knowledge to enter the Cadet Cambrian Patrol.Candidates will be tested and the team will be selected only after the training has been completed

.

2. ScopeThe course and training is open to all cadets in No1 welsh wing providing they have a basic understanding of the lessons and principles of ACP 16, although we will be covering all of ACP 16 in the training.

3. Cambrian PatrolThis is run by 160 brigades in sennybridge and the teams will be judged by independent people appointed by 160 brigade.The teams will have to abide by the rules set out by 160 brigades

4. TrainingThe training for the competition will only be given by the staff on the No1 Welsh Wing field craft list.Any staff wishing to enhance they knowledge of the patrol and field craft are welcome to aid the instruction of the training.

5. ContentThe content of the training will be in accordance with the rules and elements tested in the patrol.

6. Dress StandardThe dress for all training is combat (dpm) preferable Combat 95 style and black combat boots.The uniform is to be clean and ironed and boots polished to a high standard

7. Personal EquipmentCandidates are to supply there own note taking equipment, pens pencils and paper

8. AdministrationThe course programme will be planned and given to all staff attending.Candidates do not need to know what is on the programme.

All presentation should be accurate as possible, clear and concise.Piratical sessions are a good way to check the understanding of candidates.

9. Course equipmentThe course director is responsible for ensuring that - laptops / desktops computers, projectors and screen / white walls and printers are available as a minimum to deliver the course.

10. EvaluationsCandidates will be tested and check there understanding to ensure that they have not wasted and day doing nothing.

11. Behaviour and standardsGeneral behaviour and good personal standards are to be obsevered at all times.

All candidates are to provide a completed medical form for the training which is to be handed to the course director or administrator on arrival.A check is to be made on the medical form prior to starting any training this is to ensure that all candidates are suitable to participate

13. First AidA trained first aider is to be made available for the course period.

14. Risk AssementA risk assessment for the training is to be provided and signed.

The RA is retained as a record in the course file

15. Course Content

The training will be in accordance with the CCP rules and provide them with knowledge of the following (as a basis)

a. Team Spirit.

b. Leadership and Discipline.

c. Endurance, Self Reliance and Physical Fitness.

d. Military Skills coupled with Mental Dexterity.

b. Map and Compass Skill / Practical Navigation

c. Weapon Handling

d. Field Craft

e. Communication

f. Marksmanship

g. Country Code

h. Harbour/Hide Drills

16. Staff Uniformed and CI are eligible to teach the candidates however they may be supervised by staff on the field craft list.

(1) 58 Pattern webbing, PLCE or Chest Rig style webbing is permitted. However, the items in sub-Para 2 below, must be carried in the webbing.

(2) Carried in Webbing.

(5) Carried on Patrol Vehicle .

One sleeping bag per cadet.Roll Mat.

Junior Patrol. This will commence early on day one and consist of an inspection and the commander giving orders to the patrol. They will then conduct a series of stands over an approximately 16 km route

Senior patrol. This will commence at 1745 hrs on day one and will start in the same manner. The seniors will be expected occupy a patrol harbour and then after delivering orders conduct an tactical night time patrol task onto a target location. From the next morning the senior patrol will attend a series of stands covering approx 20 Km.
