January 24, 2021 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time CATHOLIC PARISH | DIOCESE OF CLEVELAND Dear Parishioners, I hope you are doing well. The weather this January certainly has been fairly mild. I wish the tension in our country was a little more mild! As Joe Biden became our President this past week, I lifted him up in prayer in a very special way. I asked the Lord to give him the strength and the courage to serve and protect the people of the United States, which is rooted in the Truths of God. Our nation’s motto, In God we Trust, is not just a nice saying, but hopefully a statement what will guide him. If we say we trust God, then we must follow his ways. As we know, this was a very close vote and showed a very divided nation. My hope is that President Biden comes to unite the nation in the truths and trust of God. I feel we owe him the respect of the Office of President and we need to seek to hold him accounta- ble to upholding the Constitution. One of the areas of great concern in our nation is respect for ALL human life from natu- ral conception until natural death. As Catholics, as Christians, as human beings, we should work to ensure the dignity and respect for all human beings. This can be overwhelming with all the great threats to human life, but nevertheless we must be vigilant and consistent in our advocacy and support. In the month of January we remember the tragic day in our country when abortion became legal in 1973. As a parish we are big supporters of the 40 Days for Life Movement. Every Ash Wednesday we collect monies to support this great endeavor as well as to support Birthright. Birth- right supports mothers who choose to give birth to their child but need help. The 40 Days movement does lots of extraordi- nary prayer, advocacy, and witness. I encourage you to get involved. Another major issue in our world and even in our country is human trafficking. The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace and the International Union of Superiors General designated February 8th as an annual day of prayer, reflection, and action against human trafficking. On this day, we remember and pray for survivors and victims of modern-day slavery. We pray that we may work together to remove the causes of this disgraceful scourge that is present in all our cities and neighbor- hoods. This day is also one of awareness and action: our prayers are strengthened three-fold when we accompany them with a willingness to become aware of the problem and become involved in erasing this evil. February 8th is also the feast day of St. Josephine Bakhita. Born in the Darfur region of Sudan in 1869, St. Bakhita was kidnapped and enslaved as a child. Eventual- ly she was sold to an Italian diplomat and taken to Italy, where she valiantly asserted her freedom with the help of the Can- nossian Sisters of Venice. Through her faith, St. Bakhita realized the promise of liberty inherent in the human spirit. She lived out the rest of her life as a Cannossian sister, sharing her empowering testimony of human freedom and dignity. In 2000, Pope John Paul II canonized Josephine Bakhita, noting that in this saint, “we find a shining advocate of genuine emancipa- tion.” I encourage you to pray, research and advocate for an end to all human trafficking. As Catholic Christians, I hope and pray we commit ourselves to advocacy of the important issues facing our world. Call on ALL our leaders to proclaim and legislate life so that every human being may have the opportunity for Life, Freedom, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Make it a great week! See you in Church. Peace, Fr. John 1 YEAR OF SAINT JOSEPH PRAYER Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust' with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen. ADORATION One of the greatest blessings we have at Ss. Robert and William is our Adoption Chapel. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, we have the opportunity to sit with Our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. While it is wonderful at any time during the day, it is especially so at night. The cares and distrac- tions of the daytime hours have faded. You are left with just those things that weigh most on your heart, but with Jesus pre- sent to help you sort through it. Being with Him in the quiet allows you to surrender all your worries. I urge you to come for an hour in the late night/early morning. The peace you will experience will be spiritually extraordinary.

John is a hardworking man that has focused more on his career than his family. A devastating event leads him back to his hometown, he will come face to face with his choices and their impact on his family. This heartfelt story demonstrates the in-credible power of prayer and how God’s love can overcome all.

Hi All, I hope you are well. I hope you are having a good start to 2021. We have heard from a number of parishioners they have not received their church envelopes. We have been in conversa-tion with the company that prints and mails them for us. The issues with staffing in the U.S. Postal system are causing the de-lay. I just received two Christmas cards postmarked December 8! YIKES! There are a few options: 1. You can place your offering in a regular envelope and make sure your name is clearly written on the envelope as well as what it is intended for, i.e. Regular Offertory, Outreach, School Fund, etc. 2. You can use the blank church envelopes that are in a rack on the left pillar as you walk into church. 3. You can join Faith Direct and go to online giving. Just click https://www.faithdirect.net/give-now/ The SRW code is OH298. 4. You can give one time gifts via the website. Just click https://srweuclid.cc/donate

Please know that I am most appreciative of your extreme gener-osity. Anyway you are able to donate, I am most grateful. Peace, Fr. John

The political turmoil that we have witnessed recently has been very discouraging as a community, as individuals, and as a na-tion. It is difficult to not be discouraged by the things we have witnessed. Some may have even experienced alienation from their families or friends due to opposing political views over the recent months or years. It is important to remember in these times that people are much more than their political views or affiliation. Our political ideas are such a small part of who we really are and we should not judge others on this alone. Many media outlets thrive on villainizing people with opposing views and galvanizing their viewers against the other side. It is im-portant in these times to remember that the ultimate goal is Heaven and that we are still a community of people. While poli-tics are important, they are a passing and temporary thing in this life. Our intake of politics needs to be like everything else in our life: balanced. If you find yourself absorbed in politics and it is deeply impacting your relationships, it might be something to pray about. Maybe it is something that needs to have a small-er place in your life so that you can spend more time focusing on the more important things in life. Remember that in the people you disagree with there is still a soul that was made for Heaven. -Luke Brown
