28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel we see that God continues to invite, but that the first on the list did not accept the invitation. The sec-ond tier invitees did come, but we see in the parable that it is possible to be asked to leave if we are not ready to accept all that God has to offer, both the banquet and the wedding gar-ment. When we accept being in a relationship with God, we are called to embrace whole new ways of being and thinking which are determined by God’s will, not ours. Some invited by God might not be on our list; who is it that God is calling us to accept that might be difficult right now?

[email protected] Nurturing the Pilgrim Heart—November 3-5 By our vocation as Christians, we are called to follow Jesus, to live as he lived, to love as he loved, to be part of the mission he inaugurated. Responding to that call takes us on a journey which will reconfigure our priorities and redirect our approach to life. It will transform our heart so we will find rest only in God. Incorporating the wisdom of Scripture and the insight of St. John of the Cross, this weekend retreat will focus on nurtur-ing a pilgrim heart. The weekend will be led by Holy Cross Brother Joel Giallanza. For more information contact Cedar-brake at (254) 780-2436 or visit www.cedarbrake.org. Proverbs 3:5—Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart: Nov. 16 Trust requires humility, to be open like a child, to imitate Our Savior. Brian Egan, director at Cedarbrake, will lead this retreat day. For more information contact Cedarbrake at (254) 780-2436 or visit www.cedarbrake.org. Silent Advent Retreat—Dec. 1-3 This is a weekend of silence and solitude combined with com-munal prayer and Mass. Brian Egan and Beverly Collin will lead this retreat. Spiritual direction will be available. For more information contact Cedarbrake at (254) 780-2436 or visit www.cedarbrake.org.
“Share the Journey” The Share the Journey campaign is firmly anchored in the Bible as both the Old and New Testaments are filled with verses that tell us to care for the immigrant. Never is this more eloquently expressed than in Matthew 25 when Jesus tells us to welcome “the stranger,” because “whatever you did for the least of these, you did it for me.” That makes clear our duty as Christians to help the migrant, not reject them. By supporting this campaign you can show your love for your neighbors—each one of them—by praying for change and using your voice to vote and support programs that provide food, shelter and safety.
Second Collection Next Sunday Next week, we will celebrate World Mission Sunday. Each year, the entire Church is invited to support the young mission dioces-es in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin Ameri-ca and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders serve the poorest of the poor. There is an envelope in your box and there are extra envelopes in the entry to the church. This year, we are invited to “Chat With The Pope” to learn more about his mis-sions. For more information, go to “ChatWithThePope.org”.
Planning for the December, 2017 Parish Fundraiser has begun. Del Orozco and Richard Sifuentes have volunteered to chair this event. We want to thank them for stepping up to the challenge. As plans evolve, parishioners should be checking the bulletin every week to see what will be needed to help make this 2017 Parish Fundraiser a huge success. Del and Richard are looking forward to having all Parishioners contribute (either monetarily or by helping out ) to make this fundraiser a success. There will be another planning meeting scheduled in the future. If you have any questions, you can contact Del Orozco at (713) 703-7614 or Richard Sifuentes at (979) 595-6762.
