Standard Equipment. The standardmachine offering is the long-life PlusTip that provides excellent traction and

side-hill stability with a self-cleaninglayout that resists plugging. The self-cleaning chopper blades for shreddingmaterial are optional. All choices arespecifically designed for our Catsteel wheels.

Plus Tips. Plus Tips with AbrasionResistant Material (ARM) have a plus-shaped design for superior compactionand sidehill stability on sloped material.A widely spaced 20 tip pattern requires

fewer tips than other manufacturersand results in less plugging, lowerreplacement costs and maximumcompaction. Plus Tips are guaranteedfor 10,000 hours or four years of wearlife. They offer the lowest cost per hourof any compactor tips in the industry.

Self Cleaning Chopper Wheels. The self cleaning chopper wheels are designedto deliver maximum compaction andtraction. Aggressive chopping action

is provided by 20 blades per wheel.Heat-treated DH-2, ARM steelblades provide longer wear.

The staggered, chevron bladearrangement evenly distributes choppingcoverage. Blade center gussets helpassure maximum refuse demolition.Blades are mounted differently on thefront and rear wheels to maximizechopping and compaction in bothforward and reverse.

Smooth Wheel Option. If our tipselection does not meet your needs, consider Cat smooth steel wheels. This option ensures that no matterwhat landfill tip you prefer, you getCat wheels built to our stringentspecifications.

Our manufacturing and researchengineers work together to design, buildand test a complete power train system.

The wheels, a critical component to thetotal system, are manufactured in thesame facility as our landfill compactors. This ensures the entire system iscomplemented by each component.

Altering critical components cancompromise our power train systemthat is designed for peak performance. If an off-the-shelf manufacturers wheelsare installed that do not meet our designspecifications and do not balance theload over our final drives, bearing lifecould be reduced substantially and causepremature wear out of other components, resulting in unnecessary downtime. This situation runs contrary to theCaterpillar goal to keep our customersoperating with maximum productivity, performance and compaction.

This wheel option also allows ourstandard axle guard system to work with the components for which itwas designed.

    6

Tips and WheelsCaterpillar offers a choice of tips and blades welded on our own steel wheels that will fit

your needs. No matter what your choice may be, it is part of the total system our compactorsoffer: maximum production, performance and compaction.

Heavy-Duty Axles and Brakes. The axles and brakes are designed tolast in all kinds of operating conditions.

Two front axle disc brakes provideimproved braking capability and betterheat dissipation. Planetary final drivesuse free-floating, bronze sleeve bearingsin the planet gears.

Oil-disc brakes are adjustment-freeand fully enclosed to lock outcontaminants

Front Axle. The front axle is rigidlymounted to the frame to support theweight of the compactor, internal torqueloads and external loads applied during

compacting operation.Rear Axle. A trunnion, two trunnionsupports and associated bearings makeup the rear axle which oscillates plus orminus eight degrees, ensuring four wheelground contact for traction and stability.

Four-Piece Axle. The four-piece axlecontains two axle shaft housings thecenter housing and the intermediatehousing. Features and benefits of thefour-piece axle design include:

Inboard brakes on the front axle onlyare positioned immediately adjacentto the differential and operate on thelow torque side of the final drive, requiring less braking force to stopthe machine

No-SPIN Differentials. OptionalNo-SPIN differentials are availablefor improving traction in poorunderfoot conditions.

Front No-SPIN differentials forcorner loading, uneven floorapplications where weight transfer

    occurs within the front axle.

Rear No-SPIN differentials foruphill load operations or any otherapplication where increased weightis transferred to the rear axle.

Both front and rear No-SPIN differentialsare needed only for extreme poorunderfoot conditions or for straightahead heavy dozing applications.

(NOTE: Both front and rear No-SPINdifferentials installed, may reduce

steering performance and maneuverabilityin tight turning radius applications aswell as increase operating costs.)

Electronic Power Shift Transmission.Designed, developed and built byCaterpillar, the transmission allows fullpower speed and directional changes.Fully modulated gear shifts significantlycontribute to operator comfort andincrease machine productivity as wellas component life.

Electronic Clutch Pressure Control(ECPC)/Controlled Throttle Shifting(CTS).ECPC and CTS sense input fromboth the transmission and the operatorcontrols in the cab to modulate eachindividual clutch through a proportionalelectro-hydraulic valve. This resultsin smoother shifts in both speed anddirection. Energy is modulated into theclutches, resulting in longer clutch life.
