What does the GCSE involve?• Practical and theory, some courses are;

cakes and pastries, there is an afternoon tea in the first year just after Christmas, also it’s not just food alone we focus on it is also hospitality. Also how to sell your food and how to care for the customer. Food preparation and service. Health and safety and hygiene.

Main coursesMain meals are the most commonly sold meals around the globe, and these will occur the most commonly on menu’s and in shops. Sometimes vegetarian and vegan options are available

Here are some examples of main courses that high class restaurants would normally sell.

• Some deserts are a good meal and a big filler, how ever there are some smaller dishes that can just tickle the taste buds, E.G sorbet or small chocolates or fruit dishes. Some larger meals are puddings and tarts, pastry ism used to make small things because it is filling.

• There are many types of cakes out there and in the GCSE the first practical is to do an afternoon tea and you learn in the lessons before lots of different recipes of cakes and you can edit them to how you like. There are sweet and savoury pastries out there such as quiches and scones to chocolate éclairs and sweet rolls.

Controlled assessment

• On the catering course there is a lot of things that add towards your final grade at the end of year eleven. Just after Christmas there is a afternoon tea GCSE where you have to make different products to make up an afternoon tea to be presented and marked. There is a controlled assessment in relation to this assessment and it is timed.
