Pendant [1] On 3 yd (27 m) of thread pick up a color A 11 Q

seed bead an 8 mm round crystal or pearl and an A 11Q

leaving a 10-in (25 em) tail Skip the last A sew back through the 8 mm and sew through the first A 11 Q again so the working thread and tail are exiting in opposite directions (figure 1 a-b) [2] Pick up nine A 11 Qs and sew through the opposite A 11 Q (b-c) Repeat (c-d) [3] Work a round of tubular peyote stitch (Basics p 96) using A 11 Q s (figure 2)

[4] Work a round of tubular

seed beads and sew through the next cylinder Repeat to complete the round This defines the front of the penshydant The picot round is not shown in the illustrations [6] Using the tail sew through to the back of the pendant exiting an A 11Q

Repeat steps 3 and 4 End the tail (Basics) [7] With the working thread exit an A 11 Q in the center round of peyote Work a round of netting by picking up an A 112 a color B 11Q seed bead and an A 11Q Sew through the next A 11 Q in the

round Repeataroundand step up through the first A 112 and B 11 Q added in the first stitch (figure 4)

[8] Work a second round of netting by picking up two cylinders a B 11 Q and two cylinders and sew through the next B 11 Q in the previous round (figure 5 a-b) Repeat around and step up through the first two cylinders and B 11 Q in the first stitch (b-c) Repeat for a third round of netting (c-d) [9] Work an increase round of netting by picking up four cylinders a B 11 Q and four cylinders per stitch Step up through the first four cylinshyders and the B 11 Q (d-e) [10] Sew through the bead-

work to exit a cylinder on the front of the pendant (figure 6 point a) [11] Pick up a colorA 4 mm crystal and sew through the B 11 Q opposite the cylinder in the second round of netting (a-b) Sew back through the A 4 mm and sew through the cylinder your thread exited at the start of this step Continue through the next A 11Q and cylinder (b-c) Repeat to add an A 4 mm to each stitch of the second round of netting (c-d) Sew through the beadwork to exit the first two cylinders and B 11 Q in the third round of netting (d-e) [12] Add a color B 4 mm to each netted stitch in the third

round Pick up a B 4 mm sew through the B 11 Q opposhysite the B 11 Q your thread is exiting back through the B 4 mm and through the B 11 Q your thread exited at the start of this step (e-f) Sew through the next six beads in the round to exit the next center B 11 Q in the third round of netting (f-g) Repeat around and step up through the first four cylinders and center B 11 Q in the last round of netting (g-h) [13] Add a color C 6 mm crystal to each stitch in this round as in the previous round but sew through 10 beads instead of six between crystals (h-i) [14] If you are going to

EDITORS NOTE Because of my tight beading tension my tubular herringbone necklace and bail were shorter in length than Gis To compensate I worked more rounds at the beginning and end of the herringbone tube and worked one extra stitch for the bail -Anna

hang the pendant from a single strand of beads end the working thread and go to Strung necklace If you would like to make a bail that will allow the pendant to hang from a beaded rope or cord pick up nine cylinshyders skip nine beads and sew through the center B 11 Q

in the next point Sew through the beads of the outer edge and then sew through the nine loop beads again End the working thread

Necklace You can string the pendant onto beading wire or you can suspend it from a variety of beaded or store-bought cords using a bail

Strung necklace [1] On 18 in (46 cm) of beading wire string a center B 11 Q in the outer round of netting and center it on the wire On each side string three cylinders [2] On one side of the penshydant string the following pattern four times An A 4 mm a B 4 mm an A 4 mm seven cylinders an A 4 mm a B 4 mm a color C 6 mm round pearl a B 4 mm an A 4 mm and seven cylinders

[3] String a crimp bead and half of the clasp Go back through the crimp bead and the next few cylinders Crimp the crimp bead (Basics) and trim the wire tail [4] Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the pendant

Herringbone necklace [1] On a comfortable length of thread leave a 10-in (25 cm) tail and make a four-bead ladder (Basics) using cylinders Join the ladder into a ring (Basics) [2] Work in tubular herringshybone (Basics) using cylinders for 40 rounds [3] Continue in herringbone as follows three rounds using A 11 Qs 10 rounds using cylinders two rounds using A 11 Qs one round using B 11 Qs two rounds using A 1 Ps 10 rounds using cylinders three rounds using A 11 Qs and 10 rounds using cylinders [4] Work two rounds of A 11 Qs one round of B 11 Qs one round of A4 mms one round of B 11 Qs two round s of A 11 Qs 10 rounds of cylinshyders three rounds of A 11 Qs and 10 rounds of cylinders Repeat once using B 4 mms in place of A 4 mms [5] Work two rounds of A 11 Qs one round of B 11 Qs one round of A 4 mms one round of B 11 Qs and two rounds of A 11 Qs [6] Work 20 rounds using cylinders defining the center of the necklace Work the second half of the necklace as a mirror image of the first half [7] To make a beaded clasp repeat steps 1-4 of Pendant using 30 in (76 cm) of thread instead of 2 yd (18 m) [8] Work one more round of F 15Qs then end the working thread Using the tail work one round of

cylinders and one round of 15Qs End the tail [9] Using one of the tails from the necklace pick up a 4 mm round pearl and sew through an A 11 Q in the center round of the beaded clasp Sew back through the 4 mm pearl and the last round of cylinders (photo a) Retrace the thread path a few times to secure the join and end the thread On the other end of the necklace pick up a 4 mm pearl enough cylinshyders to fit around the clasp bead (about 30) and sew back through the pearl and the last round of cylinders (photo b) Retrace the thread path and end the thread

Bail [1] On 1 yd (9 m) of thread pick up three cylinders an A 4 mm three cylinders and an A 4 mm leaving a 6-in (15 cm) tail Tie the beads into a ring and sew through the first three cylinders and the next A 4 mm [2] Working in right-angle weave (Basics) pick up three cylinders an A 4 mm and three cylinders Sew through the A 4 mm your thread exited a t the start of this step and the next three cylinders andA4mm [3] Repeat step 2 until you have a total of six A 4 mms and your thread is exiting the last A 4 mm Thread the strip of right-angle weave through the loop made in step 14 of Pendant and around the center of the herringbone tube or store-bought cord To join the strip into a ring pick up three cylinders and sew through the first A 4 mm Pick up three cylinders and sew through the last A 4 mm (photo c) Reinforce the join and end the working thread and tail 0
