Ford wanted the myFord touch Guide available as a free download from their website, as well as from apple’s app store and Google Play - making it a truly innovative approach within the automotive industry.that meant nding a highly qualied software development partner.

Delivering Ground-Breaking Functionality, Convenience, and Speed-to-marketFollowing Ford’s rigorous selection process, Luxoft emerged as the clear provider of choice. the decision was based on the company’s unique combination of software development expertise and deep domain experience in automotive infotainment and mobile applica-tion development.

there were several objectives to be met. First, in order to be most convenient to customers and dealers, it was necessary that the myFord touch Guide be built as a multi-platform application that can run on ioS, android, and Windows devices. in addition, the learning process itself was to be supported by a virtual ava-tar, providing narrative and video instructions in the background on exactly how to engage the various infotainment features.

Lastly, the guide needed to be completed in just six months to coincide with the 1st Q 2012 myFord touch update.

to expedite the project, Luxoft immediately assembled a dedi-cated, albeit geographically-dispersed team of engineers that possessed the desired skillsets. even with 90% of the team lo-cated oshore, Luxoft was able to keep everyone connected, col-laborating, and always on track by using the Waterfall sequential design method in conjunction with Jama Contour web-based application software. additionally, Jira was used for simple, centralized task tracking and progress monitoring.

Luxoft’s extensive expertise in testing automation helped save tremendous amounts of time and kept the project on its ex-tremely tight deadline.

Going the extra mileone month prior to the planned release of the myFord touch user Guide, several important updates were made to the infotainment sys-tem itself, which needed to be incorporated into the tutorial. reacting quickly, Luxoft tapped into its highly scalable resources, making all the necessary adjustments and keeping the project on track to meet the deadline.

in just six months’ time, the Ford and Luxoft partnership has proven to be a huge success. First and foremost, the free application is revo-lutionizing the automotive infotainment learner experience by being easily-available, user-friendly, interactive, and intuitive. the Guide can be updated as needed and users are notied instantly when the up-dates are available.

as Ford required, the application is now available in both apple Store and the Google Play (formerly android market). the application is proving to be a helpful training tool for Ford dealerships around the world, enabling them to more eectively communicate the advantages of the myFord touch system to their customers.

“the myFord touch Guide is now being downloaded by many of our customers and dealers through the apple app Store and android mar-ket,” says Paul mascarenas, Cto and VP of r&D at Ford.

“i have installed this on my iPhone and iPad and nd it very useful for impromptu demonstrations of the systems capability,” he adds.

most importantly, the myFord touch user Guide application strongly reinforces the reputation Ford has earned as one of the world’s most technologically innovative car companies.
