CNC Design provides a Mechatronics Solution for the manufacture of door furniture

The Company

Assa Abloy is a worldwide manufacturer of door furniture and security lock systems with a major manufacturing facility in Oakleigh, Victoria. The company manufactures a large variety of products, varying in size and complexity from highly polished front panels to multi lever lock mechanisms.

The challenge

The customer had to increase the productivity and there were three major tasks to be considered: the need for replacement of manual mechanical fixtures on the existing CNC machines, the transfer of a manufacturing process into a modern machine with greater productivity and the need to provide a secondary facility to manufacture a range of lock barrels.

CNC Design was employed to design, manufacture, install and integrate into the existing CNC machines three very different types of fixtures and to re-program the machines in order to accommodate the new production requirements. The fixtures had to be designed so that they would be easily interchanged in order to suit the specific production load.

Why CNC Design?

CNC Design has been chosen for this project as we were able to offer a complete solution, including the mechanical design, electrical design, installation and integration into the configuration of the existing CNC machines, re-programming and fine tuning the machines with the new fixtures on-board.

Mr. Mike Roker, from production department of Assa Abloy describes the experience of working with CNC Design in this upgrade:

“The upgrade of our machines went very smooth with great outcome. CNC Design team paid great attention to all technical and project management schedule. We look forward for other opportunities to work together.”

The result

The three fixtures supplied and installed increased productivity, quality and flexibility for the machines. The new rotary fixture installed in one of the machines introduced new cutting edge technology using Siemens Torque motors for the twin rotary table unit.
