Aldine High Criminal Jus-tice Club Visits HPD Sta-tions

A total of 15 members of the Al-dine high school Criminal Justice Club recently visited the Houston Police Department’s W. Mont-gomery Substation and the Greenspoint Commander Center. Students from Ms Chachere’s class were given a tour, exposed to driving simulators, and al-lowed to view the dispatch area’s inner workings. Ms Chachere was excited for the students to see and hear from law enforcement professionals the importance of

good attendance and study habits. The club members also were reminded that be-ing involved in law enforce-ment in the future means making good decisions right now while still in high school. Decisions made this weekend could possible prevent you from reaching your dreams in the future. Students saw technical careers that are available to them upon graduation if they have CPR\ER Dispatch or 911 Cer-tifications.

School during their club meeting time.

The students were instructed in some of

the following areas, Personal safety, how

to recognize Frauds and scams, the im-

portance of Identity theft, safety while

traveling and during holidays. They were

also given instructions on how to prepare

themselves and their family members for

emergencies and what to do when faced

with a disaster. Other sessions focused on

date rape prevention, holidays and travel

shopping safety, proper cellphone useage

(no texting while driving) and the impor-

tance of internet safety (avoiding child

predators) The students in Ms Harrell’s

club are more aware than ever of the im-

portance of being prepared, and being

safe.

2010 ACE Mentor Program Page 3

The program's mission is to engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in the integrated construction industry through men-toring; and to support their continued advancement in the industry through scholarships and grants.

ACE is a unique partnership among industry profes-sionals — architects, interior designers, landscape architects, mechanical, structural, electrical, envi-ronmental and civil engineers, construction manag-ers, college and university representatives, and other professionals from related corporations and profes-sional organizations — who work together to attract young people to their professions. Aldine High has approximately 4 students participating from Ms. Steenbergen’s class.

Hall enjoyed having the opportunity to interact

with former Armed Services retirees who have

given so much to our country and to this great

nation. It continues to be a rich and meaningful

experience for both the veterans and the cadets.

The 2010 -2011 school year reveals a clearer understanding of the importance of having a laser like focus.

That is the goal of Career and Technical Education.

We began this school year by implementing new Career and Technical courses and newly developed Pro-

grams of Study. These new courses and Programs of Study were designed to provide students with a curricu-

lum that prepares them to be both career and college ready.

The Aldine Career and Technical Education Department this will be accomplished by providing students

with the opportunity to take advanced technical and dual credit courses and allow them to earn industry

standard certifications and licensures. The CTE curriculum is based on relevant industry experiences. This

means that courses in CTE reflect the technology, software, hardware, and equipment being used in busi-

ness and industry.

During the Spring and Fall semesters of 2010, teachers, counselors and stakeholders spent many hours on the redevelopment of the Programs of Study. In August twenty-seven labs were upgraded with new com-puters and software.
