Dear student
Welcome to CAPS at London College of Fashion.
CAPS stands for Compact Agreement for Progression Scheme. The aim of CAPS is to support students from our partner colleges to make a successful application to London College of Fashion. To take part in the CAPS you must first complete a confidential form so that we can assess your suitability for the scheme.
The CAPS will offer you a whole series of workshops, summer courses and advice sessions on preparing your portfolio. If you are serious about applying to LCF and take part in all the activities, the CAPS will guarantee you an interview for your chosen course and greatly improve your chances of gaining a place.
CAPS2 is our scheme for students who are interested in applying to one of LCF’s non design courses such as fashion journalism or fashion business. It offers students the same benefits as CAPS, but with different activities.
We hope that you will make the most of everything the CAPS has to offer and we will be on hand to support and guide you along the way.
Best wishes,
Kate Hill CAPS Progression Manager [email protected] 0207 514 7908

Far too often if you ask a student interested in fashion what they want to study at HE they will say menswear or womenswear. There are a whole range of courses out there and lots of students don’t put enough research and time into considering where their strengths and interests lie before applying to university to study fashion.
Each course we offer has its own course page on our website. You can search for courses using the course search function. We recommend you start researching and learning about what LCF offers as early as possible, the more research you do the more likely you are to succeed.
On each course page you can read a course overview, detailed unit information, read and watch interviews with students and staff and look at student work.
Throughout the year CAPS students will get lots of opportunities to talk through course options with different LCF staff but start your own research as soon as you can.

Q: Why apply through CAPS?I received one-to-one help prior to my interview which helped me build my confidence to communicate my ideas and portray my passion for the course. The portfolio advice I got was so important to help you understand that to progress from college you need to take your ideas that step further.

Q: What tips would you give students applying to LCF through CAPS?Think about what you want to become, skill and talent are important factors but it is passion and motivation that are the key to progressing and what will gear you through your course and career.
32
Q: You finished your FdA course with a distinction, what happened next?I applied to for a Top Up year that was crucial to enhancing my FdA to a BA; it was where I got to display my creativity and flair for pattern cutting with the aesthetics of my design and specific demographic. Since completing my 3 years at LCF I have been on work placements and have enough experience to start a Masters Degree at Central Saint Martin’s studying Womenswear. At the moment I am on a placement in New York and I know that I wouldn’t be on such an exciting and glamorous path if it hadn’t been for my passion and motivation and the direction and stimulus I received as an LCF student.
Q: Survival tips for university?Make use of all the open working spaces LCF offers to enhance your understanding of tasks and activities on your course.Try new styles of working and mix and match current styles from other notable professionals, research interests of your choice to start defining your own style.Display your work for a suitable consumer other than yourself. There is a lot of work to be done and you need to be focused and eager, people do notice and pay you respect for it, believe me your hard work and dedication will not go unnoticed.
