HIPEC is a highly concentrated, heated chemotherapy treatment delivered directly to the abdomen after CRS. It is considered standard of care for metastatic appendiceal cancer and peritoneal mesothelioma, and is often performed for primary colon cancer and peritoneal metastases. Additionally, in March 2019, the NCCN guidelines included HIPEC as an accepted option at the time of CRS for patients with stage III epithelial ovarian cancer. By delivering the heated chemotherapy directly in the abdomen, it thoerectically: • Allows for higher doses of treatment • Improves the absorption by cancer cells • Reduces some chemotherapy side effects By nature, CRS and HIPEC rely on a collaborative clinical environment.
