Game Concept

Our team has been asked to design a game to help new students to the University of Waterloo get to know campus.

Our game consists of a virtual recreation of the campus. Where you can discover where buildings and services are located. While you are doing that you must also take care of yourself because your character is rated on energy, health, hygiene, happiness and hunger.

Character Building

When you start the game you get to make your own character. You can recreate yourself or create someone, it doesn’t matter. Just have fun with it.

You can customize the look of your character. Options include body type, hair colour, skin colour, clothing and so much more.

Character Indicators

Your character is a virtual person and therefore has needs just like a regular person. They need food, sleep, social interaction and baths regularly. The game has indicators to tell you when you need to replenish these needs.

All of the indicators are straightforward to replenish. The only one that is specific to our game is that you are required to obtain and use your Watcard in order to buy food.

Game Play

After you have created your player you’ll be dropped off in the residence of your choice.

From this point you can do as little or as much with your character as you want. We do have a task list of things that we would ideally like to see a new student do but what you do is completely up to you.

Certain tasks can only be completed at certain hours during the day. For example you can only get OSAP between 8:30 and 4:30 Monday through Friday.

Game Tasks

The tasks we have in mind for players to complete are• Get Watcard• Buy books• Get setup in residence

• Get keys, move in, meet roommate• Pickup OSAP• Visit Health Services• Visit the Library• Go to the Gym• Go somewhere to socialize

• Bomber, Fed Hall

Conclusion Screen

At the end of the game you are going to be graded on your performance.

• How well you maintained your characters health and happiness

• What tasked did you get completed.

Based on these two things the game will predict how well you will integrate into student life.
