109 Summer Poetry Intensive Entering 8 – Adult

Danielle Sellers Four-week Online Course

TVS English Teacher $350

Start and end dates for the four-week schedule is flexible, and can be set up directly with the instructor.

Following registration, Ms. Sellers will initiate contact with each participant.

Develop your skills as an aspiring poet as you work closely with Ms. Sellers to study poetry as well as

hone your individual writing and style. Each week during the course, participants will receive weekly

written lectures tailored to their needs and custom reading selections. Participants will also write two

poems each week to share with the instructor. Weekly one-on-one Skype sessions will allow for

conversation about the readings and about the participant’s poems. It is the goal with iteration and

revision of written work that each participant will complete 6-8 polished poems by the end of the four

weeks.

Make your mark, young artist! In this class, we’ll consider the artworks and creativity of other artists,

and make original works with a variety of mediums. What might these artists have been thinking about

and how did they use different materials to draw and paint? Young artists will grow in their

understanding of both painting and drawing as they explore various mediums in the creation of their

work. The price of this camp includes materials.

210 Jewelry Fabrication Workshop Entering 9-Adult

This class meets for TWO WEEKS (June 6-10 and June 13-17).

Come join in the fun and walk away with your very own unique works of art! Participants will design

and lay out a pendant containing a cabochon, or polished gem. Learn basic fabrication techniques,

including sawing, filing, soldering, bezel making, stone setting, and finishing. Tool preparation, use, and

care will be covered as well. Safe use of all tools, including the soldering torch, will be paramount. The

first week, we will work with copper; in the second week, we will make a pendant from sterling silver.

There will be oval cabochons of black onyx provided, or if preferred, participants may bring their own

cabochons to set, with instructor approval. This class will provide the student with his/her own basic

tools to begin a wonderful hobby, or if pursued, a great business. The class price includes materials and

a basic jewelry fabrication kit. Participants will get to keep their kits at the end of the class.

This camp is ideal for kids who want something a little different from the “traditional” tennis camp. On the court, the tennis program follows the Progressive Tennis System of scaled training and competition which focuses on basic stroke production, groundstrokes, and serves. Off the court, participants will develop fundamental motor skills through Coach’s “Mighty Muscles” program, which includes tumbling, mini-hockey, and balance exercises, and through outdoor adventures with Trinity Valley School Outdoor Education staff. These activities might include climbing, navigation, and other adventures. By exploring the world around them, students will be able to develop the strength, flexibility, and mental prowess to be truly successful on the tennis courts.

This is a very rewarding, quick, and fun class! Enameling is a fast-paced art form that allows you to enjoy

the beauty of glass without the ramping up and down time. It only takes two minutes or less to finish

firing your pieces. This allows you to see how the piece looks immediately and, if you are unhappy with

the result, make changes to the piece for re-firing! In this workshop, participants will learn the art of

fusing glass, in the form of enamel, to metal. We will use copper disks and rectangles as our bases and a

variety of opaque and transparent enamels for our designs. Types of metals and enamels, proper

preparation of metals, kiln use, and safety will all be covered. You will learn basic sifting, with and

without stencils, sgraffito, and pseudo-cloisonné. Each student will receive a basic set of ten enamels, a

trivet of his/her own, safety glasses, and a dust mask. Each participant will make four pieces during the

class. The price of the class includes all material and tool fees.

This camp is designed especially for our beginning LEGO® builders, offering simple basic brick models. Model builds include a cow, a crocodile, lightning, a rocket, a snake, and more. At the end of the week, all It’s a Wild Life campers will go home with a custom mini figure!

explore, invent, and innovate. This class is designed to empower girls to creatively express themselves

challenged to problem-solve by building structures, programming robots, learning to code, and working

with circuits. Just a few of the items we’ll use are MakeyMakey Kits, LittleBits Electronic Circuits,

Ozobots, Legos, Stop-Motion Animation apps, iMovie, and Green Screen apps. We’ll also take apart

items such as computers and typewriters to explore how things work.

310 Animatronics Workshop Entering 9-College Freshmen

This class meets Tuesday – Friday (June14-17)

Inspired by the use of animatronics to create popular attractions at theme parks, we will embark on a

four-day group project to create a show whose actors are puppets brought to life by the use of electro

mechanics. Starting from nothing but basic puppets, tools, building supplies, electronic components and

our own imagination, students will work together to give the puppets character, story, motion and

voice. Students will participate in writing scripts, recording soundtracks, using tools to build aluminum

frames as skeletons, wiring electronic components, and using software to program the synchronization

of motion and the soundtrack. The workshop will culminate in a show Friday afternoon for students and

visitors to enjoy.

311 Much Ado about Shakespeare! Entering 8-College

Much Ado about Shakespeare’s primary mission is to enchant, enrich and build community through the

shared knowledge of Shakespeare and his wonderful stories! We are looking for interested students

who possess an openness to engage in Shakespeare’s texts intellectually, imaginatively, physically,

vocally and emotionally. Directors Anna and Don Carlson lead this theatre experience with the goal to

instill a lasting sense of creativity and competency in the youth who participate. Participants experience

the life-changing potential of live theater as they engage in everything from stage fighting and

monologues to costume design and sound engineering. Guest artist instructors come from theaters and

universities throughout the United States, creating connections that no other program in the Metroplex

can boast! ALL students participate in this year’s production of Shakespeare’s comedy The Tempest on

Little Soul Rockers will introduce young students to the world of stage performing while providing solo opportunities in the endless world of all things music. Each day will include basic musical concepts, singing, drumming, and playing on real instruments. Let's go on a bear hunt! As we hunt for bears, we'll learn about different kinds of bears, their

characteristics, where they live, and what they eat. We'll act out being bears during the different

seasons, read fiction and non-fiction literature, learn songs and chants, graph our favorite bear, sort and

graph gummy bears, and many other beary-fun activities. This camp provides many opportunities for

children to develop language, math, and science skills while learning about bears.

We will create our own designs and make structures using Legos, recyclable materials and many

Roll up your sleeves for a hands-on experience learning the fundamentals of pottery: wheel-throwing,

Wheel-thrown forms may include cylinders, mugs, bowls, and vessel forms. Hand-building and

Marbling is an ancient technique used to embellish paper and fabric with swirls of color. Colors are

floated and manipulated on an aqueous surface and transferred to a paper or fabric surface, creating a

unique pattern reminiscent of the natural look of marble, stones and liquid smoke. Leave class with at

least 5 sheets of marbled paper and 2 fabric samples (silk and cotton).

Students will learn:

- chemistry and how to coat papers and surface with an alum mordant

- how to make a Carrageenan size

- how mix and test a variety of paints with gall

- to make a splatter brush and other marbling tools from household items

- how to manipulate the floating paints to create magical patterns of color

Take your climbing skills to the next level with practice on Trinity Valley School's ropes and

challenge course. This week of outdoor activities led by certified climber Mary Hanna Kindred will

include climbing, zip lining, rappelling, and even breakfast made in a dutch oven! Campers will learn

proper techniques and tactics to ensure safety and an enjoyable experience.

the 2016 Summer Olympics. Let's celebrate the biggest sporting event on the planet! Xplore Olympiads

will enjoy all aspects of the world games—learning more about Olympic traditions, history, and symbols;

exploring the culture of host country Brazil; keeping an eye on pop culture and the athletes to watch for

this year; and of course, competing in playful (sometimes silly) individual and team games. Come join us

and go for the gold!
