Last Wednesday the boys travelled to Coffs Harbour to play Narranga Public School in the North Coast final of the NSW PSSA knockout competition. Narranga scored two runs in the top of the first innings, putting us on the back foot early. But our hitters responded quickly with Reece getting a base hit and his brother Riley bringing him home with a towering home run down the left field line. From that time on, we were never behind on the scoreboard and ran out convincing winners 11 runs to 6. The combination of Jordan pitching to Jacob was again outstanding, backed up by solid defence, in particular Cooper at second base, Nash at first base and Riley at centre field making some crucial plays. Cave and Lachlan performed well with the bat from the bottom of the hitting order and Reece and Riley were again at the top of their game crossing the plate for 6 of the 11 runs scored. Once again, the boys displayed excellent sportsmanship and behaviour at all times. They must now travel to the Hunter region for the state quarter final and then if successful, down to Sydney for the final series on 5 December. Well done to the whole team and thank you to coach, Mr Nind and all the parents who have helped with transport and support. STAFFING UPDATE Mrs Narelle Clydsdale will retire on Friday, closing the chapter on an outstanding career. Her professionalism, passion, integrity and drive to improve the lives of those she works with and for, will be a powerful legacy for her to leave. We are fortunate that Mrs Clydsdale has agreed to stay on until the end of the year in a casual teacher capacity. This will ensure continuity for the ESL and Reading Recovery kids that she has worked so closely with, as well as supporting colleagues as they begin to take on some of her leadership roles. Farewell and thank you also to Mr Cameron who will finish up with 2C at the end of the week. He has done a wonderful job with this class and set them up for further success when we welcome back Mrs Tiffany Whitelaw next term. Mr Cameron will also return next term as a casual teacher. His first commitment is to work with 1C for Week 1 while Mr Condon is away on paternity leave. Finally, Mrs Angie Wilson from the office also finishes at WRPS on Friday. For anyone who comes in to the school office on one of Angie’s days, you will know that we are going to miss her bubbly personality, her nothing-is-too-much-trouble attitude and care for all our kids and staff. Angie begins a new job filling in at Lennox Heads PS next term but we hope to see her back in the new year. SPELLING BEE Last Thursday our four spelling champions represented WRPS at the regional final held at Alstonville. Sam and Harry were our representatives in the junior section, with Sam coming in equal third and Harry cracking the top 10. In the senior section, Kei and Confiance flew the Wyrallah Road flag, doing us proud. Congratulations to all of you.

SPOILED FOR CHOICE AT WRPS All Year 5 students interested in a leadership role next year met with Mr Hockings last week. There was an overwhelming response with over 40 students putting their hand up for the important captains jobs. All students are now working on speeches to present to Stage 3 and staff for shortlisting in Week 4, followed by a presentation to the whole school for the finalists. Workshops will run in Week 1 next term for any students wanting assistance. School captains will be announced at the presentation night towards the end of term. NAPLAN DELAY Due to an error identified by the national reporting body (ACARA) the distribution of NAPLAN reports has been delayed until the issue can be rectified. It is anticipated that reports will be sent home in the second week of Term 4. When the reports do come home, parents are reminded that this is a small snapshot of what students demonstrated during a test earlier in the year. Please contact your child’s teacher should you have any questions. THANKS Thank you to the whole Wyrallah Road community for what has been another busy and successful term. The staff at WRPS hopes that everyone enjoys the next two weeks and returns to school safe, happy and with the batteries recharged for the new term.

CRICKET The team performed strongly again with a good win against Coraki. We put them into bat and bowled them out for 32. We passed their score with two wickets down. The boys fielded really well and played as a unit. We wait now to find out who we play in the next round. We play the winner between Pottsville and Ocean Shores. Well done fellas! JUNIOR ATHLETICS CARNIVAL The children involved were very excited and enjoyed their events. The East Lismore Pre School joined us for the morning to experience an athletics carnival. They had a lot of fun running and enjoyed the novelty events held in the hall. A special thankyou to the University practicum teachers who ran the novelty events.

MEETING DATES: Next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 9 October. Fundraising meeting starts
