Primera Lectura: Isaías 11: 1-10 En aquel día brotará un renuevo del tronco de Jesé, un vástago florecerá de su raíz. Sobre él se posará el espíritu del Señor, es-píritu de sabiduría e inteligencia, espíritu de consejo y fortaleza, espíritu de piedad y temor de Dios. No juzgará por apariencias, ni sentenciará de oídas; defenderá con justicia al desamparado y con equidad dará sentencia al pobre; herirá al violento con el látigo de su boca, con el soplo de sus labios matará al impío. Será la justicia su ceñidor, la fidelidad apretará su cintura. Habi-tará el lobo con el cordero, la pantera se echará con el cabrito, el novillo y el león pacerán juntos y un muchachito los apacenta-rá. La vaca pastará con la osa y sus crías vivirán juntas. El león comerá paja con el buey. El niño jugará sobre el agujero de la víbora; la creatura meterá la mano en el escondrijo de la ser-piente. No hará daño ni estrago por todo mi monte santo, por-que así como las aguas colman el mar, así está lleno el país de la ciencia del Señor. Aquel día la raíz de Jesé se alzará como ban-dera de los pueblos, la buscarán todas las naciones y será glorio-sa su morada. Palabra de Dios, Te alabamos, Señor
Salmo Responsorial: Salmo 71 Ven, Señor, rey de justicia y de paz.
Segunda Lectura: Romanos 15: 4-9 Hermanos: Todo lo que en el pasado ha sido escrito en los libros santos, se escribió para instrucción nuestra, a fin de que, por la paciencia y el consuelo que dan las Escrituras, mantengamos la esperanza. Que Dios, fuente de toda paciencia y consuelo, les conceda a ustedes vivir en perfecta armonía unos con otros, conforme al espíritu de Cristo Jesús, para que, con un solo cora-zón y una sola voz alaben a Dios, Padre de nuestro Señor Jesu-cristo. Por lo tanto, acójanse los unos a los otros como Cristo los acogió a ustedes, para gloria de Dios. Quiero decir con esto, que Cristo se puso al servicio del pueblo judío, para demostrar la fidelidad de Dios, cumpliendo las promesas hechas a los patriar-cas y que por su misericordia los paganos alaban a Dios, según aquello que dice la Escritura: Por eso te alabaré y cantaré him-nos a tu nombre. Evangelio: Mateo 3: 1-12 En aquel tiempo, comenzó Juan el Bautista a predicar en el de-sierto de Judea, diciendo: “Arrepiéntanse, porque el Reino de los cielos está cerca”. Juan es aquel de quien el profeta Isaías hablaba, cuando dijo: Una voz clama en el desierto: Preparen el camino del Señor, enderecen sus senderos. Juan usaba una túni-ca de pelo de camello, ceñida con un cinturón de cuero, y se alimentaba de saltamontes y de miel silvestre. Acudían a oírlo los habitantes de Jerusalén, de toda Judea y de toda la región cercana al Jordán; confesaban sus pecados y él los bautizaba en el río. Al ver que muchos fariseos y saduceos iban a que los bau-tizara, les dijo: “Raza de víboras, ¿quién les ha dicho que podrán escapar al castigo que les aguarda? Hagan ver con obras su arre-pentimiento y no se hagan ilusiones pensando que tienen por padre a Abraham, porque yo les aseguro que hasta de estas piedras puede Dios sacar hijos de Abraham. Ya el hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles, y todo árbol que no dé fruto, será cortado y arrojado al fuego. Yo los bautizo con agua, en señal de que ustedes se han arrepentido; pero el que viene después de mí, es más fuerte que yo, y yo ni siquiera soy digno de quitar-le las sandalias. PREPAREN EL CAMINO DEL SEÑOR
Cuando en una familia hay alguien enfermo o con una ne-cesidad especial, parece que todo cambia y empieza a gi-rar en torno a esa persona. Los mas pequeños y los mas an-cianos o los mas débiles siempre requieren y reciben mas atención que los demás, que tienen que entregar su tiempo y energía a esos miembros de la familia. Esto nos parece nor-mal. No se piensa en que la justicia signifique igualdad…sino en que significa dar a cada uno lo que necesita.
En este tiempo de Adviento se nos dice que aquel a quien esperamos, el que llega en Navi-dad, viene a hacer justicia a los débiles y a de-fender sus derechos. Y también viene a cargar con sus debilidades. Es muy posible que nosotros también nos sintamos muy débiles en muchos aspectos y deseemos esa llegada de Cristo, que viene a defender nuestro derecho y a hacer justicia. Quizá sintamos que alguien ha sido injus-to con nosotros; que en nuestro trabajo no se nos recompen-se o reconoce como se debería; quizá hayamos vivido la discriminación y el rechazo. Pero, sobre todo, seguramente nos sentiremos a veces débiles en nuestra propia vida perso-nal; incapaces de hacer cosas que quisiéramos o de luchar contra nuestros propios defectos y limitaciones.
La manera Cristiana de esperar, como nos dice Juan, es ha-cer aquello que esperamos. Es decir, el Mesías nos va a dar, y de hecho ya nos la da, la fuerza para defender el derecho y la justicia desde ahora. No nos va a dar todo hecho. Juan dice: “Allanen el camino del Señor”. Es decir, la mejor mane-ra de esperar al que viene a remediar nuestras es hacer lo que Él hace: cargar con las debilidades de los demás; exten-der nuestra hospitalidad a otros; allanar senderos y relaciones y todo aquello que en nuestras vidas impide el paso al Señor. No es que nosotros seamos el “mesías esperado”, sino que hacemos las obras de amor que Él viene a hacer, fiados en su fuerza y en su promesa. Quien llega en Navidad es mucho más grande que nosotros mismos y solo podemos aprender a amar reflejándonos en su espejo: Él defiende, acoge a los débiles y hace justicia.
Para la reflexión ¿Espero a que alguien me resuelva los problemas o trato de hacer las obras de Cristo, prestando atención a mi alrede-dor? ¿Cuales son las mayores dificultades que encuentro que tendría que allanar en mi camino? ¿Que debilidades o nece-sidades hay a mi alrededor? ¿Y en mi mismo?

Significado del Adviento: La palabra latina "adventus" significa “venida”. En el lenguaje cristiano se refiere a la venida de Jesucristo. La liturgia de la Iglesia da el nom-bre de Adviento a las cuatro semanas que preceden a la Navidad, como una oportunidad para prepararnos en la esperanza y en el arrepentimiento para la llegada del Señor. El color litúrgico de este tiempo es el morado que significa penitencia. El tiempo de Adviento es un período privilegiado para los cristianos ya que nos invita a recordar el pasado, nos impulsa a vivir el presente y a preparar el futuro.
ESTA ES SU TRIPLE FINALIDAD Recordar el pasado: Celebrar y contemplar el nacimiento de Jesús
en Belén. El Señor ya vino y nació en Belén. Esta fue su veni-da en la carne, lleno de humildad y pobreza. Vino como uno de nosotros, hombre entre los hombres. Esta fue su primera venida. Vivir el presente: Se trata de vivir en el presente de nuestra vida diaria la "presencia de Jesucristo" en nosotros y, por nosotros, en el mundo. Vivir siempre vigilantes, caminando por los caminos del Señor, en la justicia y en el amor. Preparar el futuro: Se trata de prepararnos para la Parusía o segunda venida de Jesucristo en la
"majestad de su gloria". Entonces vendrá como Señor y co-mo Juez de todas las naciones, y premiará con el Cielo a los que han creído en Él; vivido como hijos fieles del Padre y her-manos buenos de los demás. Esperamos su venida gloriosa que nos traerá la salvación y la vida eterna sin sufrimientos.
PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE LORD
When someone in the family is sick or has a special need, everything seems to change and it all revolves around that person. The youngest and the elderly or the weakest always require and receive greater attention than others, who must give their time and energy to those members of the family. This seems normal to us. It is not considered that justice means equality...but that it means giving everyone
what he needs.
In this time of Advent we are told that the one we wait for, who arrives at Christmas, comes to bring justice for the weak and to defend their rights. He also comes to bear their weak-nesses. It is very possible that we are also feel-ing very weak in many aspects and desire the arrival of Christ, who come to defend our rights and to do justice. Perhaps we feel someone has been unfair to us; that we are
not rewarded or recognized as we should be for our work; or we may have experienced discrimination and rejection. But, above all, surely we sometimes feel weak in our won personal lives; unable to do the things we want or fight against our defects and limitations.
The Christian way of waiting, as John tells us, is to do the thing we wait for. In other words, the Messiah will give, and in fact already gives us, the strength to defend what is right and justice now. Everything will not be handed to us already done. John said, “pave the way of the Lord.” That is, the best way to wait for the one who is coming to reme-dy our weaknesses is to do what He does: bear the weak-nesses of others; extend our hospitality to others; pave paths and relationships and everything in our life that pre-vents the Lord from passing through our lives. It is not that we are the “expected messiah” but that we carry out the acts of love He is coming to do, trusting his strength and promise. The one who arrives in Christmas is much greater than us and we can only learn to love by reflecting in his mirror: He defends, receives the weak, and does justice.
For Reflection Do I wait for someone to solve my problems or do I try to do the works of Christ, paying attention to my surround-ings? What are the major difficulties I find that would re-quire paving the way? What weaknesses or needs exist around me? And in me?

Cada 8 de diciembre, la Iglesia celebra el dogma de fe que nos revela que, por la gracia de Dios, la Virgen María fue preservada del pecado desde el momento de su concepción, es decir desde el ins-tante en que María comenzó la vida humana.
El 8 de diciembre de 1854, en su bula Ineffabilis Deus, el Papa Pío IX proclamó este dogma:
"...declaramos, proclamamos y definimos que la doctri-na que sostiene que la beatísima Virgen María fue pre-servada inmune de toda mancha de la culpa original en el primer instante de su concepción por singular gra-cia y privilegio de Dios omnipotente, en atención a los méritos de Cristo Jesús Salvador del género humano, está revelada por Dios y debe ser por tanto firme y constantemente creída por todos los fieles..."(Pío IX, Bula Ineffabilis Deus, 8 de diciembre de 1854).
María es la "llena de gracia", del griego "kecharitomene" que significa una particular abundancia de gracia, es un estado sobrenatural en el que el alma está unida con el mismo Dios. María como la Mujer esperada en el Protoevan-gelio (Gn. 3, 15) se mantiene en enemistad con la serpiente porque es llena de gracia.
Las devociones a la Inmaculada Virgen María son numero-sas, y entre sus devotos destacan santos como San Francis-co de Asís y San Agustín. Además la devoción a la Concep-ción Inmaculada de María fue llevada a toda la Iglesia de Occidente por el Papa Sixto IV, en 1483.
La Virgen María es Inmaculada gracias a Cristo su hijo, puesto que Él iba a nacer de su seno es que Dios la hizo Inmaculada para que tenga un vientre puro donde encar-narse. Ahí se demuestra cómo Jesús es Salvador en la guar-da de Dios con María y la omnipotencia del Padre se revela como la causa de este don. Así, María nunca se inclinó an-te las concupiscencias y su grandeza demuestra que como ser humano era libre pero nunca ofendió a Dios y así no perdió la enorme gracia que Él le otorgó.
La Inmaculada Virgen María nos muestra la necesidad de tener un corazón puro para que el Señor Jesús pueda vivir en nuestro interior y de ahí naciese la Salvación. Y consa-grarnos a ella nos lleva a que nuestra plegaria sea el medio por el cual se nos revele Jesucristo plenamente y nos lleve al camino por el cual seremos colmados por el Espíritu San-to.
THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Few doctrines of the Catholic Church are as misun-derstood as the dogma of the Immaculate Concep-tion of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which Catholics cele-brate every year on December 8. Many people, in-cluding many Catholics, think that the Immaculate Conception refers to the conception of Christ through
the action of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. That event, though, is celebrated at the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord (March 25, nine months before Christmas). What is the Immaculate Conception?
Conceived Without Sin: The Immaculate Conception refers to the condition that the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from Original Sin from the very moment of her conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne. We celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary—her birth—on September 8; nine months before that is De-cember 8, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
In the Apostolic Constitution Ineffabilis Deus, Pope Pius IX wrote that:
"We declare, pronounce, and define that the doctrine which holds that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, in the first instance of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege granted by Almighty God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the human race, was pre-served free from all stain of original sin, is a doctrine re-vealed by God and therefore to be believed firmly and constantly by all the faithful."
Another misconception people have is that Mary's Immacu-late Conception was necessary to ensure that Original Sin would not be passed on to Christ. This has never been a part of the teaching on the Immaculate Conception; rather, the Immaculate Conception represents Christ's saving grace operating in Mary in anticipation of His redemption of man and in God's foreknowledge of Mary's acceptance of His Will for her. In other words, the Immaculate Conception was not a precondition for Christ's act of redemption but the result of that act. It is the concrete expression of God's love for Mary, who gave herself fully, completely, and without hesitation to His service.
It is appropriate, then, that the Church has long declared the month in which the Blessed Virgin not only was con-ceived but gave birth to the Savior of the world as the Month of the Immaculate Conception.

POSADAS NAVIDEÑAS
Invitamos a toda la comunidad a partici-par en las tradicionales Posadas, para prepararnos espiritualmente para la celebración del Nacimiento de Jesús. Este año nuestras posa-das darán inicio el viernes, 16 de diciembre en la Iglesia. Las po-sadas son una tradición con un profundo sentido religioso y de fe.
