Pacific Guardian Center, BUSINESS MADE EASY, is published four times annually by:

Page 2: BUSINESS MADE EASY - Pacific Guardian Center · 2014-02-05 · newsletter. BUSINESS MADE EASY a Message from Lisa D’Andrea General Manager Happy Holidays, everyone! As we end anoth-er

During the holiday season we find ourselves frantically searching for that perfect gift, trying to attend two parties on the same night, ad-dressing holiday cards, wrapping gifts to meet postal deadlines, and guess what? Through all of this you’re working!

At Pacific Guardian Center we understand how wrapped up all of us can get during this time of the year and we want to let you know we care. That’s why we came up with some time-out activities during the month of De-cember to help you get energized, socialized, and spirited!

December 2nd - December 18th This holiday season, Pacific Guardian Center once again teamed up with H.U.G.S. Through their “Angel Tree” program, we had an op-portunity to help local families by donating gifts to their children who are seriously ill. On behalf of H.U.G.S., we would like to thank all those who brightened a child’s Christmas by donating a gift.

December 6thFlute a la Harpe delighted tenants and guests with their holiday styling during the lunch hour from 12:00 noon – 1:00PM.

December 9th – 13th Did you see them? Pacific Guardian Center elves traveled through the hallways delivering more than good cheer! We hope you and your staff enjoyed the deli-cious candies from See’s, compliments of the owners of Pacific Guardian Center.

December 13th The courtyard was filled with the sounds of handbells and chimes while Honolulu Hand-bell Ensemble performed holiday favorites from 12:00 noon – 1:00PM.

December 20th – WassailOur annual Wassail event was held in the morning on December 20th with plenty of muffins, croissants, danish, and apple turnovers along with hot apple cider and coffee on hand. The Arsenio band joined us for this event and made the morning festive with two very talent-ed solo artists, Catherine Barroga and Jade Summers, performing Christmas favorites.

FREE Water Cooler TimersPGC has taken another proactive step toward reducing our building

energy consumption. We have successfully partnered with Hawaii Energy and Power-Down to provide a FREE PowerDown timer for our tenant water coolers.

During the month of January, we will distribute PowerDown timers to each tenant that has a water cooler in his/her suite. The timers will be programmed to turn your water coolers “off” during the hours they are not being used. Our goal is an average energy consumption savings of 84,000 kWh/year after installation. Stay tuned as we will be sending out e-blasts to inform you of our delivery dates. Together, we look forward to increasing Hawaii’s energy independence and more importantly cultivating a greener earth for generations to come.

Coreless Tissue and Hands-Free Paper Dispenser ConversionPGC is passionate about incorporating sustainability into everything we do. In today’s environmentally conscious environment, PGC unveiled a conversion of our toilet tissue and paper towels to “greener” products in the fall of 2013. We are at the home stretch and the tenants of Dillingham Transportation Building (DTB) will be happy to know that their restrooms’ paper products will be replaced with new.

PGC will be converting DTB’s standard toilet tissue rolls to a new absorbent coreless product. This new product will require fewer refills and produce less waste (approxi-mately 95% less waste) than our standard toilet paper rolls by eliminating the large cardboard inner core and reducing the amount of overall packaging.

By the end of April, DTB tenants will be able to tangibly participate in improving our environment with a “wave of their hands”. We are installing new “hands free” paper towel dispensing units that will reduce towel usage up to 30% com-pared to folded towels. Automatic “touch-less” dispensing will also help minimize the risk of cross-contamination and help create a more hygienic environment for all. Thank you for your support by embracing these green changes so we can all take an active role in protecting and saving our environment.

Droves of excited tenants lined up across the Pacific Guardian Center courtyard at lunchtime Friday, October 27, 2013 to join in the festivities of our annual Oktoberfest Celebration. Tenants enjoyed the hot dog and polish dog giveaway, compliments of PGC’s own-ers while the lively German folk music of Wallen Ellingson and the Ompapa Band (including accordion, tuba, and clarinet) had tenants and manage-ment alike smiling and even dancing. Bright and colorful bouquets from Honolulu Balloon Company added to the cheerful atmosphere, and good food and fun was had by all. Danke sehr!

Thank you very much to all who participated in Pacific Guardian Center’s Annual Hallow-een Spooktacular festivities here in PGC’s courtyard on Thursday, October 31st. Building Management gave away wickedly delicious cupcakes in pumpkin with rum and maple as well as red velvet flavors from The Girls Who Bake Next Door. Tenants participated in pumpkin carving, karaoke, and costume contests as part of this ghoulishly fun event. Four festive jack-o-lanterns sat on display just outside the PGC security office as passersby voted for their favorites. Tapestry Karaoke & Sound provided karaoke enjoyed by tenant and guest alike. Many displayed their funny, scary, original, and group costumes in an entertaining and memorable costume parade. Winners chosen by popular vote and prizes were as follows:
