What is Bullying? Bullying is aggressive behavior that involves

unwanted, negative actions.

Bullying involves a pattern of behavior repeated over time.

Bullying involves an imbalance of power or strength.“A person is bullied when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time, to negative actions on the part of one or more other persons, and he or she has difficulty defending himself or herself."

Traditional bullies are 2.5 times more likely to also be a cyber bully

Happens to both boys and girls

The Danger of Cyber BullyingCyber bullying can be worse than

Safe School Ambassadors

SSA is a nationally researched and recognized program that empowers students to step in during situations of mistreatment within their peer group.

Students are on the front lines of mistreatmentStudents are trained and receive ongoing

support throughout the year. They meet biweekly with students and adult leaders all year.

SSA’S are not know to other studentsThe effectiveness of this program comes from

the subtle actions of our SSA’s. When non-SSA students see their friends stepping in and standing up for others they feel empowered to do it themselves the next time.

How Parents Can ReportCall or email counselor or or deans directly. Provide as much information as possible and be

willing for us to talk to your child.  Once the call is made:

◦ Victim/bully are interviewed separately◦ Witnesses are interviewed ◦ Bus tape reviewed◦ Dean/AP is brought in depending on offense◦ Calls home◦ Consequences rendered (we can’t share the

consequences)◦ Follow up, if necessary, is done by counselor/dean/ap.

Restorative Justice is based on a set a principles and practices in response to harm of people and relationships.

It is centered on the person who was harmed and emphasizes offender accountability, as well as the laws or rules that were violated.
