Dear Parents/Guardians,

This Sunday, we will welcome you and your entire family, as well as the general public, to the largest annual community event and fundraiser in our College calendar. It is a thanks and credit to many of you that we are in an outstanding position. With some good weather, Sunday is set to be enjoyable for all involved.

As we work double time here on campus, to tie up loose ends before the big day, it is timely that I communicate through a few reminders:

• Rosters – By now you should have received an email reminder of your commitment to assist either on Saturday Setup or on Sunday Fete Day. On behalf of Stall Convenors and the College, THANK YOU!

• Art Union Raffle Books – All raffle books must be accounted for by no later than this Friday 25 October. The cash prizes will be drawn on Fete Day and we are required to honour our commitment to all who have purchased tickets, by returning sold raffle books to the College. If your family’s book is still outstanding, please have your daughter hand this in to her Class Teacher by the end of this week.

• Live & Silent Auction – Copies of the Live Auction Catalogue went home last Wednesday. This catalogue and other Fete news have also gone out on our Facebook event page and via a letterbox drop in the local area. Concurrent to the Live Auction is a Silent Auction, with many excellent items that will walk out our gates. Doors in the Hall open at 11am.

• Cakes & Afternoon Tea Stall – Any donation of cakes would be much appreciated. These can be dropped off to the Front Reception Desk on Friday or delivered to the Hall on Sunday. Please note our request for an ingredients slip on the back page of this Bulletin.

Parents/Guardians of Year 11 or 12 students historically support the Afternoon Tea Stall. We rely on your donation of cakes/scones which can be delivered on the day to the Rose Café in the Art Courtyard (‘Multi’ Room).

• Performances – The 2019 Fete has an impressive line up of entertainment. Choirs, orchestras, solo singers, and dance groups will be positioned at various locations. More details appear on the back page of this Bulletin.

• Monday (LATE START) – I am certain you need no reminder of the late start on Monday 28 October. School begins at 10:50am. Any students who are not at the Fete are expected to attend school normal time. They will be supervised by Staff in the Library.

Love and Best Wishes go out to our Class of 2019. This Friday we will begin the first of many celebrations for our Year 12s as they finish formal classes and move on to the next phase of study. This involves finalising assessments and preparing for external examinations. We pray that these young women continue to be blessed, and experience success and good fortune.

This week is the very busy lead up to our much-awaited Fete & Auction on Sunday 27

October. Our community spirit is very present at the moment and we are always thankful to all the parents who give extra time to help support our school. Our

DIVERSITYThe Year 3 Class have been discussing the meaning of the word DIVERSITY this week. We acknowledge that there are things that make us the same, such as we’re all humans, we

attend the same school, we all have two eyes, legs etc. We are also different from one another. We have different interests, likes, dislikes, skin colours and we like different foods. It is these diverse things that make each of us unique and special.

YEAR 3

Year 5 / 6 CampLast week, Year 5 and 6 classes travelled to El Shaddai near Wellington for Camp. It was a great three days full of challenging activities and bonding time with classmates.

The creating of the rafts was challenging but also really fun. My group’s strategy was to try to make a square with an opening in the middle so we could have a backrest. We also put rope in the middle for us to sit on. My dorm group had Alissa, Montana and Emil Rose, we played a lot of games and ate a midnight feast on Alissa’s bed. I miss camp...

– Emerson Year 5We did raft making to ‘save’ an ‘injured’ classmate. First we designed and built a stretcher to carry the patient down a hill to the river. There we had to work together to build a raft that would hold about 7 people. Our raft worked well and could hold about 14 people without sinking.

– Morgan Year 6Canoeing was a lot of fun with Lyana as Captain and me leading the way. We had a great time together and it was all going good until we were just about to dock and we headed straight into a bush! Lyana then surprised me with a large splash of water.

– Ines Marcon Year 6Sleeping with classmates in our dorms was a lot of fun. I used to like the song ‘Dance Monkey’ but after camp I think I have grown out of it. There were a few times we were stuck doing something when the song was calling us to regroup with everyone.

– Estella Rauda Year 6The giant swing made me feel free and like a bird soaring through the sky. I loved when I f irst started swinging as the shock of the fall made adrenaline explode inside me. Everyone was Ding Dong Ditching at bed time and it was hilarious.

– Magdalene Year 5The teams for Laser Tag were great because we were with friends. Our team won. The Giant Swing was scary as you rose to the top but a lot of fun once you started swinging.

– Anna-Bella Year 6

family donations have also been outstanding. We hope you all enjoy the day; the forecast is looking favourable. A reminder that it is a late start for school on Monday. Students need to arrive no later than 10:50am.

Students are excited and planning what stall or activity they are most looking forward to this Sunday:

‘I want to go on some RIDES and eat YUMMY FOOD.’ - Mila Reception ‘I love the BOUNCY CASTLE and after the ride I am going to the CHOCOLATE WHEEL. It is a great day!’ - Scarlett D Year 1‘The GAMES should be great and seeing my friends will be fantastic. Do you know it is always good at the Fete?‘ - Nicole Year 2‘The LUCKY DIP is one of my favourites and I am allowed five turns this year.’ - Sofia Year 3‘I really like PLANTS and I’m looking forward to going to the CLASSIC TREASURES because they have very interesting items and the food is delicious too!’ - Latika Year 4‘The RIDES should be really good fun and its exciting seeing the different stalls.’ - Magdalene Year 5‘I will be performing outside the Rose Cafe with the STRING ORCHESTRA and a quintet with my family.’ - Linh Year 6

Week 3, Tuesday afternoon Assembly will be hosted by the Reception Class.

2:30 in the Hall. All Welcome.

Lavazza Italian Film Festival 2019Palace Nova, Prospect

'La Befana Vien Di Notte’ is described as a "gothic fairy tale for all the family" and stars Paola Cortellesi, Stefano Fresi e Fausto Maria Sciarappa and is directed by Michele Soavi. The film was nominated for Best Visual Effects, David di Donatello Awards 2019.

On Wednesday 16 October the Year 9 Italian classes attended a special screening of 'La Befana Vien Di Notte’ (Legend of the Christmas Witch). We were offered a cinema to ourselves and both students and teachers found the movie experience thrilling and very comfortable.

The teachers would like to commend the students on their exemplary behaviour and wonderful spirit of “adventure and magic!” Sincere thanks to Mrs Meyer who accompanied us on this ‘gita scolastica’. Grazie a tutti!

Signora Zora e Signorina Rossi, LOTE Faculty

The film is a heartwarming tale about La Befana, the Christmas witch, who gives out presents to children on 6 January. It is an adventure-filled movie with comedy, beautiful cinematography, subplots and an endearing cast. It was great to see alpine villages and feel the anticipation of the Christmas holiday season. Grazie alle professoresse. - Nhi Nguyen (9B), Lara Moore & Ellen Kelly (9G)The movie was an enjoyable insight to the Italian tradition of La Befana. It was a light-hearted movie with many surprises. Benissimo!- Emma Barber & Charlotte Hall (9B)As Italian students, each line spoken by the characters was delivered perfectly for easy understanding. It was such a fantastic experience and we would absolutely recommend this movie. Especially fitting for the Christmas period. Buon Natale! - Amy Nguyen (9G), Anna Chu & Helen Pham (9B)
