LAST PANCAKE BREAKFAST WILL BE MAY 28TH. WE WILL RESUME THEM THE 1ST TUESDAY OF SEPTEMBER. VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED – PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE (315-539-2944) IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PARTAKING IN THIS MINISTRY.

For most of the year between 1958 and 1964 my home was St. Bernard’s Seminary on Rochester’s north side near Kodak. Dad’s working at Kodak allowed him to do a weekly pickup/drop off of my laundry. Mom’s kindness transformed it from dirty to clean. At the time, I took such loving care for granted along with the goodies and letters in the laundry boxes. Most of the letters have been lost. All the remaining ones have been printed in prior Mother’s day bulletins. One of the letters gone remains in memory. It concerned a lost child, my brother, Bob, then 10 or 11. (Mom always called him Robert, her favorite grandparent’s name.) The misadventure started when mom and Bob went to a downtown movie theater. As the movie was ending, Bob headed for the rest room. Mom left shortly after expecting to catch up with him in the lobby. Didn’t happen. An usher’s report that he was not in the rest room led to a thorough search of the theater. No luck. Finally, mom drove home to organize a family search. Not necessary. Bob had walked home. Nice of you to read this far. If the original were available, you would have done so more avidly given mom’s skill at relating events in candid and engaging detail. Mom’s writing skills do not reflect a lot of formal schooling. After eighth grade and two years of business school she entered a secretary pool at the Rochester Gas and Electric Company. Within ten years my imminent arrival ended that phase of her life. Her informal education resulted from the street smarts acquired as a secretary, wife, mother and volunteer supplemented by extensive reading. She and dad encouraged the formal and informal education of their children that has resulted in a wife/mother/grandmother/math teacher (Noreen), a husband/father/lawyer (Robert) and this appreciative priest. No letter from mom this year, just a tribute to a mother whose written legacy offers insight into her goodness, faith and priorities. And special blessings to all who share her vocation.

COMMITTEE CORNER

The Social Ministry Committee has finished a busy Lenten season. On Good Friday we held services for residents at both the Huntington and Seneca Nursing Homes. Many residents expressed their appreciation for the beautiful services. The Committee also organized the Operation Rice Bowl Collection, which included coordinating donations from Religious Education students. Many griddles and pairs of work socks were collected from generous parishioners. The items will be given to the migrant workers who will harvest our crops this summer. Our final meeting until September was held Monday May 6, at 4:15 pm, at the Ministry Center. We will devote the summer to packing for our Nicaragua Mission Project, which begins Saturday May 18, at 9:00 am, behind St Patrick’s Church. Volunteer packers are needed each Saturday throughout the summer.

Committee Co-Chairs: Joan Bells (315-539-8473) & Liz Young (315-521-2921)

Many thanks to Donna & Jerry Wolfe for donating the money for St. Mary’s Easter Candle. They donated it for the people of St. Francis & St. Clare Parish.

St. Francis and St. Clare Parish is joining other local churches in organizing our monthly food and hygiene donations. Area clergy have proposed a schedule of specific items to be collected every month by each participating church to ensure food pantries are always fully stocked. At the beginning of each month there will be a notice in the bulletin stating the items our parish will be collecting for the month. We encourage you to donate these specific items, but know that ALL donations are accepted and greatly appreciated. May items are: soups, toothbrushes & toothpaste.

Social Ministry is collecting new and gently

used griddles (not electric) and large frying

pans (not electric) and new large men's socks

during this Lenten season to donate to

migrants who will be working in our area this

summer. There are containers at the doors of

the churches for your donations. Thank you

for your generosity!

There will be a Bunco Night Wednesday, May 15th, 7pm at the Seneca Falls Rec Center, 35 Water St., Seneca Falls. Prizes and snacks are provided. Price is $20 (tax deductible). STEWARDSHIP CORNER

May 12, 2019 4th Sunday of Easter “The disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.” (ACTS 13:52)

The disciples heard Our Lord’s call and were able to spread the Gospel message with strength and vitality. We, too, can experience that same joy if we make room for the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts. When we use our gifts in the way that God intends, He fills us with supernatural joy. A joy that others notice and are attracted to.
