Definition of Bullet proof clothing A bullet-resistant vest is an article of

protective clothing that works as a form of armor to minimize injury from projectiles fired from handguns, shotguns and rifles . They are commonly worn by police forces, the military, and private security and civilians where legal.

History of bullet proof clothing In 1538 Francesco Maria della

Rover commissioned Filippo Negroli to create a bulletproof vest. In 1561 Maximilian II and Holy Roman Emperor is recorded as testing his armor against gun-fire. Similarly in 1590 Sir Henry Lee expected his Greenwich armor to be pistol proof. After that in world war I&II use bullet proof vest and start the tradition of using bullet proof vest.

Raw materials A bulletproof vest consists of a panel, a

vest-shaped sheet of advanced plastics polymers that is composed of many layers of either Kevlar, Spectra Shield or Twaron or Dyneema. The layers of woven Kevlar are sewn together using Kevlar thread.

Yarn Production From Large reel of the basic fiber made

cords and yarn. The yarn is a long continuous length of interlocked fibers suitable for use in the production of fabrics and sheet material.

Sheet materials The yarns are then further woven into a

sheet material that is capable of stopping bullets. The sheet materials are use to make the actual bulletproof panels. The final ballistic sheet materials are normally put on rolls around 100-200 meters in length.

Cutting the material Using large patterns and industrial

cutting machines multiple layers of sheet are cut at once. Generally bulletproof clothing consists of front and back panels that are a slightly different shape and size. The panels used in bulletproof clothing consist of multiple layers of sheet material and extensive testing such as “Ballistic testing V50 and V0” and “military testing” is required to identify the proper thickness of ballistic material.

Sewing the panel After cutting the multiple layer of sheet

fabric cut fabric are sewn by using Kevlar thread.

The cover The cut and sewn layers of sheet fabric

then need to be put into a protective cover. This cover can be heat-sealed in order to protect the sheet fabric inside against water and humidity. The sealed cover is the basic ballistic panel that provides a bulletproof vest with its bullet resistant qualities.

Carrer The ballistic panels are then fitted into a

specially designed carrier. A ballistic carrier has pockets in which the ballistic panels can be inserted and is designed to hold the panels in proper position on the body.

Working principle of bullet proof dress When a hand gun bullet strikes body

armor it is caught in a web of very strong fibers. These fibers absorb and disperse the impact energy that is transmitted to the bullet proof vest from the bullet causing the bullet to deform. Additional energy is absorbed by each successive layer or material in bullet proof vests until such time as the bullet has been stopped.
