Jesushad twelveclose friends, called thedisciples.Thedisciplesspent timewithJesuswhilehewasonearth.TheylistenedtohimteachaboutGod,watchedhimdoamazingmiracles,andtheysawthewayJesustreatedothers.

BeforeJesusdiedonthecross,hehadaspecialmealtogetherwithallhisdisciples.At the beginning of the meal, Jesus did something that surprised everyone. Hestartedtowashthedisciples’feet!

Back in those days, roads weremade out of dirt, and people walked in sandalswherevertheywent.Peoplewalkedthroughmud,dirt,andotherstinkythingsonthe ground. Imagine how dirty their feet were by the end of the day! Washingsomeone’sfeetwasoneofthedirtiestjobs,andonlythelowestservantswoulddoit.
