    PREAMBLE

Amity University aims to achieve academic excellence by providing multi-faceted educationto students and encourage them to reach the pinnacle of success. The University has designeda system that would provide rigorous academic programme with necessary skills to enablethem to excel in their careers.

This booklet contains the Programme Structure the !etailed "urriculum and the Scheme of#xamination. The Programme Structure includes the courses $"ore and #lective% arrangedsemester wise. The importance of each course is defined in terms of credits attached to it. Thecredit units attached to each course has been further defined in terms of contact hours i.e.&ecture 'ours $&% Tutorial 'ours $T% Practical 'ours $P%. Towards earning credits in termsof contact hours ( &ecture and ( Tutorial per week are rated as ( credit each and ) Practicalhours per week are rated as ( credit. Thus for example an &-T-P structure of *-+-+ will have* credits *-(-+ will have , credits and *-(-) will have credits.

The "urriculum and Scheme of #xamination of each course includes the course obectives

course contents scheme of examination and the list of text and references. The scheme ofexamination defines the various components of evaluation and the weightage attached to eachcomponent. The different codes used for the components of evaluation and the weightageattached to them are/

Course 08?ecti@e:;our basic sciences Physics "hemistry :athematics and 9iology are the building blocks in engineering andtechnology. "hemistry is essential to develop analytical capabilities of students so that they can characteri5etransform and use materials in engineering and apply knowledge in their field. All engineering fields have

uniFue bonds with chemistry whether it is Aerospace :echanical #nvironmental and other fields the makeupof substances is always a key factor which must be known. ;or electronics and computer science engineeringapart from the material computer modeling and simulation knowledge can be inherited from the moleculedesigning. The upcoming field of technology like Canotechnology and 9iotechnology depends fully on theknowledge of basic chemistry. 0ith this versatile need in view course has been designed in such a way so thatthe student should get an overview of the whole subect starting from the very basic bonding mechanism to theapplication of materials.
