BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in IT(BTEC Subsidiary Diploma - 2 year course, equivalent to 1 A Level)
Overview The BTEC National Subsidiary Diploma allows students to take a truly practical ICT course. The Subsidiary Diploma is designed to continue the approach to learning that students have had at school, if they have studied ICT on a vocational programme. Students will experience a very ‘hands on’, practical course, with the ability to be creative using ICT skills, and to apply them in a range of contexts.
Course OutlineA BTEC Subsidiary Diploma is a 2-year vocational course that would normally be studied alongside a range of traditional A level programme. Students will learn about the use and management of IT facilities in a variety of different work-related contexts.
Provisional Course Outline:
Year 12Unit 1: Communication and Employability Skills for ITDeveloping communication skills using IT facilities.Unit 2: Computer SystemsUnderstanding about hardware and software and carrying out routine maintenance.Unit 42: Spreadsheet ModellingWorking with Excel to design and create complex spreadsheets.
Year 13Unit 3: Information SystemsHow computers and IT are used within business..Unit 28: Website ProductionThe principles behind how to design an effective website for a business need.Unit 30: Digital GraphicsIntroduction to the basic production considerations involved when creating an image.

Special Entry RequirementsIf you have taken an IT course at GCSE you must have achieved at least a grade C, or at least a merit in OCR Nationals. This is in addition to standard A level and BTEC/A level equivalent entry requirements - see www.solihullsfc.ac.uk/courses/entry-requirements.

Work PlacementOn this course you will be expected to undertake at least one work placement, the purpose of which is to gather information and insights about the workplace, which can be included in your College assignments. Work placements also help develop your employability skills. By the end of the course you will achieve the full Career Passport award and the placement will count as one of your Professional Development activities.
