Course Description
Students study 7 units over two years:
Unit 1: Pre-Production Techniques for The Creative Media Industries
Unit 2: Communication Techniques for The Creative Media Industries
Unit 3: Research methods and Techniques for Creative Media Production
Unit 27: Factual Programming for TV (news)
Unit 29: Music Video Production
Unit 30: Advertising Production for TV
Unit 44: Music Based Programming (radio)
Course Content
Students study the following in year 1:
Units 1,2,3 and 30
Students spend their first year looking gaining knowledge and understanding of the research and planning required for producing a film based video product. This knowledge and understanding is then used to produce a short TV advertisement.
Students study the following in year 2:
Units 27, 29 and 44
Students know and understand the purposes of music based programming (radio), music videos and factual based programmes for TV. They know and understand about the codes, conventions, styles and techniques used in these types of products. Students are able to plan, produce and evaluate these products themselves.
Assessment The course is comprised of seven units.
Throughout the two years, students produce a portfolio of evidence for the seven units they have completed. This evidence is assessed by their class teacher and moderated both within the school and by the Edexcel external moderation process. There is no exam.
Future Opportunities
Creative Media holds many opportunities for further study at university including specialism in any of the media pathways such as gaming, film, TV, and radio.
Future careers include: teaching, video journalism, film production.
