Introduction

Presidents Welcome Welcome to Brothers Ipswich Cricket Club. Brothers Ipswich is the oldest club in the Ipswich and West Moreton Cricket Association and we take a great deal of pride in our history and the important role we play in developing cricket in our region. We have a great reputation for developing many cricket players in local state and national cricket teams. Many of our players have developed their skills and gone on to higher levels, representing Ipswich, Queensland Country, Queensland and Australia. Current Australian all-rounder Shane Watson is a junior Brothers Ipswich player. While we focus on improving the individual skills of all players at whatever level they reach, we also strongly encourage participation for both junior and senior players in all club activities and also promote a strong social atmosphere throughout the club. It is important that we create an atmosphere and culture that people want to be involved in. By doing so we will be creating the future history of the club. I would like to thank you for choosing to be a member of our club and hope that you enjoy your cricket with us. Remember; it is your club and the more you put in the more you will get out of it and enjoy it.

Vision, Mission and Goals for Season 2010/2011 Vision: To be recognised as the leading cricket club in our region. Mission: To develop well balanced, successful individuals who will be capable of contributing in a team environment throughout their lives, regardless of gender, physical abilities or heritage. Goal: To provide an environment where all players can enjoy themselves and improve their game.

Team Captains

Expectations of Captains BCCI has a long and proud history and it is an honour to be selected as a Captain for the club. Captains are not only leaders on the field, but we expect they will be leaders off the field as well. A Captain at Brothers has added responsibilities as follows:

1. Maintain an appropriate standard of discipline and ensure players adhere to the Code of Behaviour. Captains are the ‘Custodians of Cricket’ and hence are ultimately responsible to the Club and I.W.M.C.A. for the conduct of all players

2. Ensure all necessary equipment is available on match day – match balls; scorebook; boundary markers and stumps

3. Collect match fees and record all payments made by player and to umpires. It is the responsibility of the captain that monies collected and paid balance.

4. Complete Match Results form 5. Complete Umpire’s Report with opposition captain 6. Attend club meetings to report on match results 7. Advise Selection Panel of player availability 8. Keep the scorebook up-to-date with all statistics, especially catches. Make sure

that all information is correctly entered into MyCricket on-line results database each week

9. Ask on last playing day of each match about the availability of all players in that grade for the next match and provide feedback to Selection Committee; including presentation of the scorebook at the Tuesday after each game

10. Encourage your players to attend training and actively participate 11. Act as Net Captain – arrange batsmen/bowlers for their team’s net at training 12. Encourage players, partners, family and friends to support the Club and attend

social functions 13. Notify selected standby players if required to play after the teams are announced

on Tuesdays and also advise the captain of the team below that the team is required to be changed.

14. Make application for a Blue Card - http://www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au/employment/index.html

Expectations of Players We expect all of our players to respect our past and the game and conduct themselves within the spirit of the game. We expect:

1. Players entering the field of play to be appropriately attired either in playing ‘whites’ or ‘creams’; or club training gear with shoes.

2. Each team to be responsible for keeping their own field clean and tidy regardless of whether they are playing at home or away.

3. On match day, players in First and Second Divisions to arrive at the ground one hour before the commencement time. Players in Third and Fourth Divisions are required to arrive 45 minutes before the commencement time.

4. All players are to wear the club training shirt and shoes during match warm ups and net sessions.

5. Availability – players to tell a member of the Selection Committee if unavailable. Ideally telling your Captain from the previous week is preferable. Arriving at training on Tuesday or Thursday and telling us that you are unavailable is not acceptable as it makes the process so much more difficult. If you become unavailable in the middle of a round, you cannot be replaced. Don’t make yourself available for a round if you know you cannot play the second week. Tell your Captain which week you can play and something may be worked out.

6. Matches on Saturday are between 12pm – 5.30pm and on Sunday 11.30am – 4.30pm. It is not acceptable for players to inform their Captain on game day (or before game day) they need to leave early.

7. Training – the Committee understands that at times players will have other commitments, particularly work, but it is an expectation that you attend at least one session per week. You are encouraged to attend both. At training, players are there to train; be on time; follow the instructions of the Coach and give 100%. Players to bring a positive attitude; leave excuses at home and support and encourage each other. Most importantly, enjoy it! You will only get out of it what you put in!

8. Senior players to attend one junior training session during the season. 9. Make a presence at club BBQs and Brothers League Club after matches with the

team. Visiting the club whilst wearing the club cricket shirt to show support to our major sponsor.

10. Be a financial member of Brothers Leagues Club Ipswich. Full Membership $11 or $5.50 for Students per annum or Social Members $3.30 per annum.

Wet Weather 1. If wet weather affects training or match day, you will be contacted by your captain.

Turn up unless you hear otherwise. There is no point ringing your Captain or anyone else to find out if it is on. You will be contacted as soon as it is cancelled.

Code of Behaviour All Members of BCCI are required to abide by the Code of Behaviour and the IWMCA Rules and By-Laws as prescribed by the I.W.M.C.A. The Captains are responsible at all times for ensuring that play is conducted within the spirit of the game as well as within the laws. In particular:

1. Players and Officials must not assault or attempt to assault an Umpire, another player or spectator.

2. Players and Officials must not react with unnecessary obvious dissension, displeasure or disapproval either towards the Umpire, his/her decision, or generally, following an umpiring decision. Note: Any player, who back chats an Umpire over a decision in any form or

manner, will be put on report.

3. Players and Officials must not use crude, racist and/or abusive language, or otherwise engage in conduct commonly known as “Sledging”. An Umpire would be expected to caution the player and advice the captain of his/her concern before reporting the player for this type of behaviour. Note: Any player using bad language/swearing on the field of play, which may be heard from a spectator position or sledging against another player or team, will have one (1) warning through his/her captain, the second time, if continued, will be put on report and with the captain to appear with him/her to answer for that player’s bad conduct on the field of play and why the captain had no control over that player.

4. Players and Officials must in no way use crude or abusive hand signals. With reference to Umpire report forms, constructive criticism only. Difference of opinion will not be entertained, especially LBW decisions and appeals.

Players should be aware the Club will closely monitor the behaviour of our own players and officials and where there is a need, appropriate action will be taken by the Discipline Committee independent of I.W.M.C.A. involvement. The Club’s Discipline Committee will be appointed by the committee on and as needed basis and will consist of committee members, and player peers.

Coaching and Training Senior training is held at Brothers Leagues Club cricket nets each Tuesday and Thursday afternoons/evening. Tuesday 6 pm – 8 pm Thursday 6 pm – 8 pm Junior training is held at Brothers Leagues Club cricket nets. Your nominated coach will advise you of your teams training days

Senior Selection Process

Selection Committee The Chairperson of Selectors is responsible for coordinating the selection of teams each week. He will be assisted by a panel of selectors consisting of First Grade Captain and one other person nominated by the Management Committee. The selection committee will make decisions through a democratic voting system with the majority of votes deciding which player is selected.

Selection Guidelines and Criteria The following guidelines will be followed in the process of selecting teams and advising players of changes:

1. The Selection Committee will meet on the Tuesday night before the start of a new game, under the direction of the Chairperson.

2. Senior teams will be selected in order from First Division through to Fourth Division. Remaining players will be available to play 4th Division. Third and Fourth Grade will be selected to ensure a fair and equitable access to games on a rotational basis if required.

3. Teams will be announced on Tuesday nights following the selection meeting. 4. The Club will send texts to all players by the Thursday night. 5. Players that have been dropped will be informed by the Chairperson (or an agreed

member of the Selection Panel) prior to the announcement of teams where possible. Any player who has been dropped player will be given frank feedback on the reasons for their demotion and the aspects of their game that need to be addressed.

6. The Club Coach should arrange additional coaching for those players. 7. Players that have been promoted will be informed by the Chairperson (or an agreed

member of the Selection Panel) prior to the announcement of teams where possible.

8. If being dropped, a player will be dropped to the next Division only. 9. If a player is required to fill a position, the player will be selected from the Division

below (eg player required for Second Division, is filled by a player from Third Division)

10. Any changes to be made after teams have been announced are to be made by all members of the selection committee. No changes are to be made in isolation.

In all circumstances the decision of the selection committee is final. The Management Committee has approved this selection process and will support the selection committee in all their decisions. Players that are unhappy with their selection are welcome to address their concerns to the Chairperson of Selectors. However, unacceptable language, abuse or behaviour (such as threatening not to play unless picked in the team of their choice) directed towards any member of the selection committee will not be tolerated. If a player (or a player’s family or friends) has acted unacceptably following a selection decision, the matter will be immediately referred to the Club’s internal Discipline Committee. The Selection Committee shall consider the merits of each individual player, within the context of team make-up, player availabilities and likely playing conditions. The Selection Committee shall consider the following criteria during the selection process:

1. Training – attendance, effort and commitment 2. Performance – particularly recent form and match statistics 3. Ability – as discerned by the Selection Committee from match performances

and training. 4. Attitude and discipline 5. Financial position with the club 6. Experience 7. Persons ability to qualify for finals if appropriate

Junior Selection Process It is the policy of Ipswich Brothers Cricket Club to provide inclusion for all players to play cricket regardless of their skill and ability. All junior players will be provided with equal access to cricket games across the season.

Brothers History On 27 September 1949 the formation of Past Brothers Cricket Club was announced in the following Queensland Times article: After a period of years in senior cricket, C.Y.M.S. will be known as Past Brothers this season. In the change-over eight former C.Y.M.S. players have become ineligible to play with Past Brothers. The idea behind the new Past Brothers club is to sponsor cricket in the schools and provide an avenue for young players to rise to the top grade. Past Brothers will field teams in A, reserve and second grades. Among the players who have joined other clubs are Rick Mahoney, who is one of the best pace bowlers in Ipswich, Alex Clark, C. Young, and Roy Grienke. At the moment W. Ryan, Ipswich representative wicketkeeper and a century scorer last season, has not signed a registration form. Past Brothers have two players new to Ipswich cricket in Laurie Mossop, who played in Brisbane with Valleys last season, and George King formerly of Bundaberg. Mossop is a fast bowler and a good batsman, and King has represented Bundaberg as a batsman for the last five years. J. Dwyer, formerly of Booval, will keep wickets. Other likely players against Railways on Saturday are J. Martin, K. Sheedy, J. Smith, C. Murphy, K. Laimer and S. Patch. Stan Patch is one of the most promising young fast bowlers in Ipswich. Merv Young probably will play with Brothers later in the season. In our debut season we fielded teams in A grade, Reserve grade and Second grade. A grade, captained by Ken Laimer, finished in fifth place, while Reserves and Seconds were placed seventh and second respectively. Past Brothers did not compete in either of the B Senior grades. The club finished in fifth place for the F. Goleby & Sons Sports Depot Club Championships Shield. Clubs with teams in both A grade and Reserve grade were eligible for the club championship. The club did not have to wait long for success. The following season, 1950/51, saw our C grade team finish on 56 points and in doing so win the club’s first premiership. Season 1952/53 saw the word “Past” dropped and we became known simply as Brothers Cricket Club. It was also a memorable season for another reason. Kev Laimer captained the club to our first A grade premiership.
