Brotherhood/Sisterhood
Program
The Brotherhood/Sisterhood award is an award given to people who work to bring
people together. This award was started in 1963 by the NCCJ (National Conference of
Christians and Jews). Over time different originations were in charge of this prize. They
look for qualities like integrity, respect, trust, honesty, empathy, fairness, and more.
Neighbors Federal Credit Union sponsors this award for the parish.
We have the Brotherhood/Sisterhood award at our school. Teachers vote for two
staff members and two students who have some of the qualities we just named. Each
year we have a program to recognize the recipients of this year’s awards. Traditionally,
we have a speaker from the community and a mini production based on a piece of
literature. This year 3rd grade is sharing Whoever You Are by Mem Fox and Leslie
Staub. Our Brotherhood/Sisterhood program is this Friday, March 4 at 9:15.
Saint Patrick’s Day
March 17
Everyone knows that St. Patrick’s Day is March 17th and that the wearing of
the green is required . March 17th marks is the anniversary of the death of
ST. Patrick the patron saint of Ireland..Here are some fun facts you might not
know:
Saint Patrick himself would have to deal with pinching on his feast day. He
wore blue instead of green.
The shamrock: The shamrock also known as clover was a holy plant in
ancient times Ireland because it symbolized the rebirth of spring.
The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in the United States on March
17, 1762.

SPOTLIGHT
At BRCVPA love the little guys,
so we asked the teachers what
it’s like in Kindergarten and First
Grade these days.
What are your students about in Kindergarten?
Capacity, mapping, mixtures, singular and plural nouns, history
Is there anything you would like to share with the school about
Kindergarten?
Ms. Savant’s class is using Class DoJo, an app that helps students
track their academic and behavior progress. Students are assigned a
“monster” and earn points (or lose points) for their behavior and work
habits. Parents can join the group and also view their child’s
progress.
What are your students about in First Grade?
Louisiana, long vowels, human body, pronouns
Is there anything you would like to share with the school about
First Grade?
Mrs. Loyd’s class made a King Cake from scratch!
Do the students ever teach you anything?
Yes. We learn about their opinions through class talk and how to look
at things from a different perspective
