What is fashionABLE? FashionABLE, a nonprofit, provides sustainable business for women in Ethiopia through the selling of handmade scarves. Due to states of poverty, many women have been forced into prostitution to provide for themselves and their family. FashionABLE focuses on giving these women new opportunities and dignity in their work. With each scarf, 100% of the profits benefit their restoration. Instead of increasing dependence upon charity, these opportunities contribute to their sustainability and ability to contribute to their economy.

How did fashionABLE begin? Mocha Club is the parent organization of fashionABLE. The organization is a group of activists committed to providing sustainable solutions through online donations of $7 a month, equal to two mochas. Barrett Ward, the founder of Mocha Club, began working with Women at Risk while living in Ethiopia. Committed to working with women victims of the sex industry, Barrett sought a way to continue its effective work through sustainable jobs for the women. From there, fashionABLE was birthed.

Each scarf is named after women involved in the creation of fashionABLE scarves. With each purchase, you receive a note from the woman your scarf is named after.
