STUDENT PROFILE

WHAT WE DO

The Consulting & Strategy Club at IIM Lucknow is a special interest group for stu-

dents in pursuit of careers in Management Consulting and Strategic Management.

The Club provides avenues of interaction between students and industry through

organized activities that advance Strategic Management and Consulting outside

the classroom environment.

Competitions

Guesstimates: A competition to challenge the estimation and analytical skills of

students, it tests the ability to take decisions with incomplete information

Mindunes: Introductory Case Competition for 1st year students

Envisioned to be our flagship event in the years to come, Imperatoria is designed to

be the ultimate test of teamwork, analytical skills and decision making ability for

teams representing leading business school across India. Imperatoria will be as rigor-

ous a test in skills in Strategy, Marketing, Design, Public Speaking, and Finance as it

will be of ability to work and decide collectively as a team.

Live Projects

The Club undertakes Live Projects from the Industry to help students at IIML under-

stand the nuances of the Consulting Profession. Live assignments provide the:

Industry an opportunity to address immediate and future challenges through

solutions based on cutting-edge academic theories and benefit from a fresh

and independent perspective

Students a platform to develop their interest and aptitude towards Consulting

by application of academic learning to solve real-world problems

Workshops & Guest Lectures

Case Book

Throughout the academic year, the Club brings in seasoned professionals from

leading professional services firms and academicians from internally renowned

management schools, who discuss recent developments in their industry or con-

duct workshops prepare students for interviews and consulting jobs.

The case book is revised every year to includes cases, which were given during the

consulting interviews of that year. The case book serves as an important resource

for aspirants of consulting placements.

DELIVERY FRAMEWORK

The Club seeks assignments from the corporates, non-profits and entrepreneurs to

provide a chance to students at IIM Lucknow to apply their academic learning and

analytical skills to real-world problems in business. We benefit our clients with our

enthusiasm, fresh ideas and an academic perspective all at almost negligible cost to

company (To learn more on our differentiated offering, please see the following page).

We offer our client services in two different models:

AETIUS: The services that we offer are high touch and high involvement. Our Ae-

tius services endeavor to match the professionalism and quality of regular profes-

sional services firms. While learning is our primary objective, we encourage our cli-

ents to reward our students for their hard work with appropriate performance-

linked remuneration.

GO-LIVE: Projects of lower complexity are undertaken at zero costs to our clients.

Such projects are undertaken by preformed student teams of four. To encourage

participation, the club has devised an internal points system to award the members

of the team with the cumulative best performance throughout the year as ‘The

Consultant of the Year’. The title is one of the most sought after in campus.

LIVE PROJECTS

Project Definition: The Club can be involved

right from this stage as accurately defining

problem statement and scope and setting the

expectation s and timelines for the project are

vital for success of the project.

Project Staffing: The Project staffing is typical-

ly done by floating a Request for proposal

(RFP) and inviting proposals. Alternatively you

may select teams or individuals based on re-

sumes and/or responses to pertinent questions.

Project Execution: The Club would ensure that

the work progresses as per the set timelines

and quality standards. Your involvement is

welcome to monitor the quality and scope of

the work.

Team Feedback: We would like you to rate the

performance of teams at the end of the project

tenure. These ratings would be important both

for the students to understand their strengths

and areas of improvement as well as an input

for the selection of the team for the year-end

“Consultant of the Year” award.

Support: We seek to work based on relation-

ships. We will endeavor to provide support for

all kinds of supplementary information that

may be needed or subsequent follow-on work.

National Physical Laboratories: Market Research for an indigenous low-cost ECG

device for NPL and Strategy for managing intellectual property rights.

Indigo Edge: Analysis of global and Indian market for Industrial Gear Solutions and

identification of potential M&A targets in the sector.

IMPERATORIA — The National level Business Leadership Challenge

It is amazing how much people get done if they do not worry about who gets the credit. – A Swahili Proverb

Imperatoria is a national level team strategy and leadership challenge in which teams from leading business schools across the country will

compete over two days in Lucknow while only one team will reign supreme. While most competitions today test the individual’s

knowledge, analytical or speaking abilities, Imperatoria aims at rewarding the entire team which best demonstrates the ability to think

collectively and putting the interests of the team above that of the individual. The competition will be rigorous in testing the teams in var-

ied areas such as Strategy, Marketing, Design, Communication and Finance and above all how the team performs at levels much higher

than sum of its parts. The competition will also identify the one leader within all the teams who set the direction for his/her team and is

most instrumental in the function of the team as one.

The first edition of Imperatoria is planned in the month of February of year 2011 with participation from eight Tier 1 management institu-

tions in the country.

We seek support from the industry in this endeavor of ours. Sponsorships could be for the Imperatoria title, the rounds of competition or

for the best leader award. Event sponsors will have independence in designing their respective events and can utilize the competition to

present live cases and get new ideas into their existing business problems. Given the Institute’s excellent relationships with the media, the

competition is bound to be of high visibility in management institutions across India helping increase brand equity of our sponsors in this

space.
