Multi-Camera production evaluation The brief For my first assignment I did a live report of several videos. Some were out side the studio e.g. Live sports, Concert, Public event. Then there were videos that were inside the studio e.g. Game shows, Chats shows, Magazine shows. Lastly I had to find a video which was produced in a live studio, e.g. Talent shows. Then once I found the videos I had to analyse the aesthetical and practical reasons for why multi camera was used. My next task was to research job roles and from there I had to begin thinking what jobs would be interested in. Afterward my next task was to develop an idea for a magazine show which meant I had to talk about content ideas. Also I had to talk about things such as the presentation style and what mode of address the presenters would be using or visual style that I want to create. From there were many production meetings were held. Here everyone got together and discussed what they have done that week. By this time everyone was assigned their specific roles. During this time I had to complete tasks within my job role e.g. create a logo, opening sequence, graphics script. I thought the final production of Trap Star met the brief because it was aimed at a specific audience (14 – 20 year olds). This was achieved by creating a theme suitable for young adults, which was about music. The show had an urban yet mature style which both age groups could relate to. The show contained interviews, other people’s music videos and games which encouraged audience interaction. Throughout the entire show there were at least 3 cameras. There was 15 minutes of live content and 15 minutes pre-record footage, overall it was 30 minutes long. How effectively you believe the production team functioned overall? There were good communication skills because without it the program wouldn’t be able to come together. Teamwork was essential and this was performed to a high standard. Therefore any problems that appeared were resolved quickly. Furthermore since everyone knew what they were doing and got along with each other, things went smoothly. Self-evaluation For my job as the graphics designer, I had to be creative to make the show interesting. I had to be creative with the graphics yet Here are screen caps of my blog about the two job roles I have applied for. Here is a magazine show that I analysed for my first task. Multi-Camera production evaluation

The brief For my first assignment I did a live report of several videos.

I had to be creative with the graphics yet

Here are screen caps of my blog about the two job roles I have applied for.

Here is a magazine show that I analysed for my first task.

Here is a sample of my ideas from task 3.

sticking to the colour schemes this was evident in the making of the logo. In addition I needed to have good computer skills because all the graphics I will be making would be on the computer. However this was okay since I already had preivous experience with using advance programs e.g. Photoshop. Furthermore I needed to be able to work under pressure yet still be able to produce high quality work. Lastly I needed to have good problem solving skills. This was evident when I lost my work. I had to quickly come up with an idea because I had no time; this happened whilst I was making the opening sequence. Also there were issues with transparent images. Such as dark colours would make the graphic transparent when broadcasted live. Meaning I would have to a black screen be behind them or replace the entire graphic. What improvements made to your contribution? Next time I should print out the script that the presenters were using so I can follow closely. There were moments where I didn’t know when to make the graphic appear, especially when the presenters went off script. Also I should know the shots that are going to be used and how long the shots are going to last for therefore I know where to place the graphic and how long it is going to be held it for. I was limited to the colour scheme. So if I had different or brighter colours to work with then I could have produced bigger graphics. What difficulties did you have and how did you solve them? There were many timing issues e.g. me cutting with the vision mixer. So after many practise runs we managed to agree that he had to put the black screen up first and then the graphic would quickly follow. In addition there were times where I had to work with sound, e.g. when a guest got a question right. Sometimes the sound effects were too early so the sound had to wait for the graphics to appear. There was the occasional issue on where graphics should be placed because some times the guests kept switching places or the graphic itself was too small. So I had to keep moving these around and resizing them. As mentioned before there were some issues with transparent graphics. I needed to have to substitute colours because of the transparency dark colours created. Also there was one stage where I lost a chunk of my work and I had no time to remake it. Therefore I had to improvise on the opening sequence within a small amount of time. Furthermore in the original idea there was going to be scores for the guest when they participated in games. However the director and I

This was the running order. I used to order the graphics.

I printed out the graphics that were going to appear throughout the show. Then crossed through any slides that weren’t needed. Anything that needed to be added, I made notes in pen.

concluded that would be too much work since I would have to quickly switch screens which would disrupt the show. So we removed the scores. The skills that I have thought you have gained are:

• Better communication skills because I had to work with many people to be able to get my work done. If there are any chances make sure to inform the director, sound, vision mixer on what I was doing.

• I have better cooperation skills. Since there was a few days that I couldn’t come into school due to exams. So I completed my work and left it on the shared folder for my crew to access.

• I kept my work to a high standard even if I was short of time. I managed to produce a suitable graphic that I had to be made of the day of production because it was a last minute add in.

• Also I have better organisation skills since I have to have my graphics in a specific order throughout the show. Lastly be prepared to go backwards just in case the guests want to see a picture again or you went too fast.

• A better understanding on how to use advanced equipment e.g. Photoshop. This allowed me to play with the colours and filters that I was working with, which enabled me to be creative.

Practical Reasons Multi cameras are needed just in case the audience miss something. They also help to maintain spontaneity, this helps get coverage because Trap Star uses more than one location. Since Trap Star is shot in the studio the director has more aesthetic control so there can be various angle, etc. There had to be various amount of shots and cuts to see the different reactions from people talking. This will make sure that the viewer doesn’t get bored. An example that doesn’t use much camera variation is the One show from 1:10 to 1:20. Aesthetic reasons There fast cuts, this helps keep the viewer engaged this helped to show who was talking throughout the interview. In addition this was enhanced by the camera cuts to when there is a reaction from another person. During interview the camera usually focuses on the interviewee this will help maintain the viewer's interest because the viewer is getting more information. Since would know who is talking and what the interviewee looks like. There was a specific mode of address for the presenters, which was informal, funny with sarcasm. They acted made their behaviour seem normal and this shows that the presenters have personality.
