    Concept

Lightbulb is a magazine for children aged 6-12 years old. It will include short stories and fun facts from different independent authors, with a new issue published quarterly on a different theme. The name Lightbulb sums up education and bright ideas but with a sense of fun.

    The logo:

The logo was designed by myself, with a rounded font to make it look friendly and fun. The lightbulb dot on the eye is a subtle addition to allude to the name.

    Brief

In groups of 5 or 6 come up with a concept for a new magazine and create a masthead for it. Then think of ideas for a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to launch the magazine.

Fun, lighthearted illustration styles were researched in order for us to represent them as part of our magazine. Anorak magazine was influential because of its limited issues and different topics for every quarter. This was something that we thought would work well for our magazine in order to keep themes current and relevant to children.

We chose to make the first issue about space because it is a topical subject in light of the comet landing. We decided to make the images illustrations only as they are more interesting for kids. These would be contributed by freelance illustrators to make it the same format as the writers. The ones we chose as examples are from the Space Race by Nobrow as the matched the aesthetic we had in mind. Laura made the front cover and Adam and Ant mocked up how it would look physically.

The spine of each issue would have a number and a part of an image that would be completed once all of the issues are collected to make it into something that children would want to keep as a set.
