Durbin's push to get federal environmental watchdogs involved comes as Metra scrambles to figure out how it can improve ventilation on its trains and inside the crowded commuter stations. The transit agency is holding a meeting Tuesday with federal, state and local officials to discuss options. "We want to make sure we have a thorough, complete investigation to determine the danger to people on these trains and in these stations," Durbin, the assistant Senate majority leader, said during a news conference at the Ogilvie center.
