New class Children achieve the best educational outcomes when they receive inspired teaching, are embraced by their schools and fellow students, and have the support of engaged families and friends. We are committed to building a more inclusive school, one where all students feel welcomed and are learning to their fullest capability. I am really excited to announce that we have been given funding to establish a second Mul ‐categorical (MC) class. This means we will have a Primary MC class and a Secondary MC class. These classes are regional resources which will be permanently placed at Bowraville Central School. The Primary MC class will be established in the old Makerspace room and the Secondary class in room 43. The resources from Makerspace will be relocated around the school and u lized by specialist teachers to embed Science and Technology outcomes across the school. New faces This term we welcome some new staff in the school. We have Marcia Bell joining us in Mathema cs. She has a wealth of experience and enthusiasm having taught both in Canada and around the Mid North Coast. We also have the opportuni es to offer temporary contracts to some of a regular causal teachers, welcome Terry Simpson and Daniel Constan nou to the team. Naplan This year we are doing Naplan online for the first me. NAPLAN Online will provide be er assessment, more precise results and faster turnaround of informa on. The assessments can run through a real‐ me internet connec on or onscreen without an internet connec on. For more informa on see the website h ps://nap.edu.au/online‐assessment. Naplan assessments will involve students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 from around Australia. The assessments commence on May 14. External Valida on In 2019 Bowraville Central school will be externally validated. This is a process that occurs in schools on a 5 year cycle. I have established teams to consider the 3 domains of the School Excellence Framework, namely Learning, Teaching and Learning. We will collect evidence of how we are performing against the School Excellence Framework as either Delivering, Sustaining and Growing or Excelling. For more informa on about the process visit the website h ps://educa on.nsw.gov.au/teaching‐and‐learning/school‐excellence‐and‐accountability/sef‐evidence‐guide/external‐valida on School Uniform As the weather starts to get cooler we no ce students wearing jumpers in the morning. We are fortunate to live in such a wonderful climate that by mid morning students have usually taken off these jumpers. We really want to see you in school uniform so now is the me to get your school uniform jumper for the winter season. Students assistance is available for families in need. Best Regards, Dave Taylor
S C H O O L N E W S Careers Expo
Year 9 students were given the task of choosing and researching a career. They then had to set up a stall to encourage curious primary students to visit and find out all they could about these careers.
Careers ranged from the ‘Air Force’ where visitors could engage in safe target prac se, to a ‘Midwife’ informa on desk where they learnt to swaddle a baby.
All the Year 9 informa on stalls were very professional. Primary students were thoroughly engaged during the a ernoon Expo. A ending staff commented on the wonderful effort by Year 9.
Learning about Vietnam
Students in Year 1/2 have been learning all about Vietnam with Ms Ryan. They have been reading stories and making the Vietnamese flag. Students also learnt to make rice paper rolls and then got to eat them. Many of the students tried food they had never tried before.
During the school holidays the students at Bowraville Central School were kept busy preparing their show ca le to take to this years Macksville Show on May 3rd and 4th. The students have been growing fresh produce to enter in the compe on in the pavilion and they will also be submi ng their first jar of honey from their brand new beehive. An cipa ng this year's show, giant pumpkin seeds were planted in December in prepara on to give that category a go ... however reports are that a growth spurt is needed (fingers crossed!) Last year's garlic crop was a huge success, both in size and yield and Ca le Team students will have a stall at the show where they will be selling the garlic and our school farm honey. Please drop by the stall and show your support for this keen young team of farmers. In other Agricultural news, Year 8 entered the Flow Waggle Dance compe on and released a video that required Facebook likes on the school's Facebook page. The students put in a great deal of effort to produce this video, which sums up their passion and dedica on to educa on and agriculture. The compe on closed on April 28 so we again have our fingers crossed that we have won the flow hive prize. The Macksville Show provides a huge program of entertainment and fun for the en re family, not to men on the chance to display your art, cra s, produce and flowers.
NEWS FROM THE FARM
CLO Corner
It was fantas c to see the students donning their decorated Easter Bonnets for the annual Easter Parade around the main street of Bowraville. The huge crowd cheered and clapped as the parade passed by.
A great effort, too, by all the students who par cipated in the Bowraville ANZAC March and service during the holidays. Captains, Jack Sullivan and Dene Lyons proudly represented Bowraville Central School as Masters of Ceremony for the service.
Term 2 is already shaping up as a busy me star ng with the Annual Cross Country and colour run this Friday. Ag teacher, Lori Wilson and her ‘team’ from the school farm will be at the Macksville Show on Friday and Saturday compe ng with the ca le, displaying school produce and se ng up a stall. The school will also be entering in the school’s display compe on and look out for student entries in the cooking compe on in the pavilion.
Transi on days for new Kindergarten and Year 7 enrolments in 2020 will also commence this term (see calendar on front page). If you have a child, or know of a child, wishing to find out more about Bowraville Central School please pass on this informa on.

Goulburn, NSW
Experience/Background:
Teaching in the Nambucca and Macleay for last 15 years.
What I teach / my roles at Bowraville Central:
I commenced my posi on at Bowravillle Central School at the beginning of this year. I teach Visual and Performing Arts for all stages. This term I have taken over the role of Year Advisor for Year 9.
Interests:
I love the ocean, bush and rivers. Especially love camping and bush walking.
Other comments:
I really enjoy the people who make up the communi es of this region.
BCS Alumni Where are they now? Our Past Students Years at Bowraville Central School: I completed all of my years of schooling at BCS from Kindergarten to gradua ng Year 12 in 2014.
Where I went when I le BCS: I worked in hospitality during a gap year and began studying a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at Southern Cross University, gradua ng in 2018. In 2017 I was selected for a month long student exchange program to the Tianjin University of Sport in China. This was an absolutely unreal experience and I would encourage all to give such opportuni es a go. What I am doing now: I am currently having a years break from study and plan on studying Physiotherapy in 2020. I hope to work with elite athletes in the future.
Memories of Bowraville Central School: I have made some great friendships at BCS with students and staff. Being such a small school everyone knows each other and it really feels like a big family. I have been on countless excursions for sport, leisure and academics which aren’t possible without the great support form the BCS staff.
Interests: Sport, exercise and cooking
Other comments:
Without the outstanding support from the staff at BCS, par cularly during my HSC, I don’t believe I would be where I am
today, pursuing my dream of becoming a physiotherapist. I can’t thank BCS enough for guiding me through my schooling
and the forever las ng friendships that were formed.
