Chess Programme Grows This quarter the chess programme has flourished. Many volunteers from Pneumatix Academy have joined us each Tuesday for our Grade 4-5 Chess Lessons at Parkwood Primary School. On Wednesdays after school we’ve also had an additional volunteer. Learners have participated in the WP District Trial 1 & 2 with five of them qualifying for the WP closed tournament. Still more learners will be participating in the upcoming WP Schools Chess League. Our goals are not only to develop strong chess players but to teach learners the thought processes behind making good choices and to adopt a future perspective thinking that will allow them to create the future they desire for themselves and their community. Chess has become so popular through the programme that many learners are wanting to join the chess club. Bottomup ‘Tweets’ Pneumatix Academy has sent 14 volunteers to assist with literacy and chess every Tuesday. This allows us to reach more learners in a more personal , one-on-one way. Thanks Pneumatix. Well done to Dorian, Zinedeane, Waheeb and Vallentino of Parkwood Primary , and Shumaiy of Perivale Primary on qualifying for the WP Closed Chess Trials in May. Thanks to Flickswitch for sponsoring cellphone prizes. We issued some of these as prizes in our in-school Blitz Chess competitions run at Parkwood and Perivale Primary. We aim to do this again next quarter. Life Orientation and Physical Education went well this quarter with learners attempting the “Fitness Challenge” (V-Sit Reach, Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, Time Trials). We look forward to doing this again to see how learners are progressing. Thanks to Tornelo.com for sponsoring a tournament manager account to use for our chess competitions at school. We appreciate it
