What is a Smart Board?

• An interactive white board which plugs into a computer and a projector

• The computer image is projected onto the screen

• Controlled by a pen or a finger• It is an interactive whiteboard that can save

and store any information that is written on it, as well as enable the user to refer to notes downloaded from the Internet or other sources.

What is a Smart Board?

• Smart Board is the general name for these boards but SMART is the specific brand name.

• The pen tray is what causes the smart board to function. The pen tray senses a tool's absence, and relays a message to its host computer's processor to start picking up input signals from whichever implement the user has chosen.

• Smart technologies is a Canadian company from Alberta

• Been around since 1991

Why Use Smart Boards?

• Because they are fun!- Kids love to use Smart Boards

and will take any opportunity to do so. It is just one more thing to keep students engaged.

• Because they are interactive.- Smart boards allow students to

interact more with the class material. They bring a new dynamic to otherwise ‘boring’ material

• Because they are great for differentiated instruction!

-Smart boards work great for tactile kinesthetic learners. They also work wonders for students with special needs.

How to use a Smart Board

• One of the great things about smart boards is that they really easy to use. In many cases, just pick up a pen and write!

• Go to smarttech.com• Then click on education box• Then got to “All lesson activities” – left

side• Then go to Canada – View all or pick

by subject and grade level

• In Science, Smart Boards can be used to: -Perform faux dissections and teach anatomy.
