Introduction Welcome! This is our annual report for April 2014 - March 2015, in it we aim to give you a more in-depth view of our work, the young people who are succeeding in the organisation; how we work together to make this happen and how others view what we do and our plans for next year.

We hope you find this an enjoyable and informative read.

Many Thanks

The Blueprint 22 Team

OUR MISSION As an organisation we believe there is a story behind every person. We come together to

unite as a family to support, guide and help people, without judgement.

Working with anyone aged 16-25 years old from Brighton to Bognor-Regis. We give individuals the opportunity to shine by participating in or developing projects, encouraging

young people to take control of their lives.

With us, young people are always at the heart of the matter.

Michael Jenner:

During this last year Blueprint 22 has seen many new things being developed and many new people joining as well as some people choosing to leave and move on with their lives. I have been part of promoting the organisation further afield in Hampshire and as part of the Ted Talks in London. As a group we have grown stronger and been able to move the organisation forward together. I hope to do this more over the coming year.

Laura Montgomery:

Over the last year, I've thoroughly enjoyed how Blueprint 22 has made collaborative research and team building an integral part of its structure, it's allowed the entire team to become closer and in turn facilitated the overall growth of the organisation. Further to this, I've enjoyed projects that have focused specifically on mental health well-being and its importance within the young community. I'm very excited for what the next year has to offer.

Gemma Hathaway:

Over the past year Blueprint has created some interesting projects but personally my highlights for this year would be our team building exercise at Go Ape. The project enabled us to unite as a team and develop our strengths. Additionally, the awards ceremony really solidified my faith in Blueprint as it was incredible to see just how many organisations and young adults devote their time to helping us grow.

Amy Dexter:

I've enjoyed getting involved and i’m very happy at how well the projects that been running during the past year. It is a great way to make new friends and discuss ideas for more projects in the future.

Josie Churchill:

Over the past year I have had so much support from Blueprint 22 and I have enjoyed working as a team. I am looking forward to giving back as much as they have given me with my role as Blueprint Youth Chair.

Shannon Colbourne:

Since I've been part of blueprint 22 I've learned how to plan and run a project and overcome some stressful situations in the right way. I have also gained confidence and met some lovely people along the way, I am looking forward to running more projects and becoming more involved and more of an important member of the blueprint family.

Cameron Brophy-Lemay:

My best memories this year are getting the team together during my team building task. Everyone really enjoyed the day and everyone took part. I'm looking forward to the next team building event!

The founder SAYS… Amanda Baker: Founder

Over the last year my role in Blueprint 22 has changed from being directly involved in the day to day provision, to that of an external consultant for the organisation. This has given me a unique opportunity to have a clearer perspective on new ways to build and develop the work of the organisation, whilst remaining true to the core values. I have still been able to witness the amazing

achievements of the young people who strive to grow and be the best they can.

Although the year has had many highs, it was of great sadness to us all when one of the youth trustees died and this had a profound effect on our work. It was important for the young people to pull together and out of this sadness came a real sense of team work and desire to continue to create an organisation that can truly help people in all aspects of their lives.

Since the start of Blueprint 22 four years ago the organisation has continued to have a clear vision and direction which remains our focus. This vision is to support any young person aged 16-25 in ways that best suit them, without judgement. Blueprint 22 offers everyone involved an opportunity to explore who they are. It remains a privilege to have the trust of these young people and I will continue to be inspired by their lives and their innate ability to offer the hand of friendship and support to others.

I look forward to working with them in the future to create lasting and significant change.

The YOUTH CHAIR SAYS… Kirsty Smith: Youth Chair

I joined Blueprint 22 in March 2013, where first I became involved in profile a project run for LGBT young people. Then I was given the opportunity to run my own project which I chose to focus on mental health.

After running my own project I was offered the chance of becoming a trustee for a year. Earlier this year I became the first ever Youth Chair of the organisation. It was my responsibility to represent the organisation at meetings and events, to lead the monthly meetings, to promote the organisation and to help with funding. As Youth Chair I decided to set up a research project about disability awareness and as part of this we did a poster campaign to help others understand some of the issues disabled people face.

Before getting involved with Blueprint I struggled with controlling my feelings, emotions and anger but they helped me in finding the light at the end of the tunnel and helped me realise I could express myself in many different ways. Now they have given me a focus.

The PATRON SAYS… Maria Baker: Patron

Hi, I am Maria Baker and I am the first Blueprint 22 Patron. I was delighted to be asked to take on the role and hope I can raise the profile of the organisation in Brighton and Hove.

I have lived in Brighton for over 33 years and have a background in hospitality and supporting the LGBT and BME community locally. I

am well known in the business and community sectors and believe I can help promote the organisation to other professionals.

I am currently the BME liaison officer for Brighton and Hove LGBT Community Safety Forum and a grant panel member for the Rainbow Fund, which supports local LGBT groups.

I have a large social media following and will use this to spread the word about Blueprint 22’s amazing work and will support the young people in their individual fundraising efforts.

I am keen to support the growth of Blueprint 22 and was honoured to help the Youth Chair Kirsty Smith, with her Awards Ceremony.

I know my first year as a patron will fly by so I am committed to making a big difference and hope to exceed their expectations.

In June 2015 I will be holding a big event in Brighton which will promote and fundraise for the organisation.

The DIRECTOR OF DELIVERY SAYS… Veronica Carver: Director of Delivery

Over the last year I have been working with trustees and project leaders to develop and deliver a variety of projects. We have been able to expand our work in Bognor and Brighton which has given us the opportunity to work with more young people along the south coast. This has really good been because they have all come with new ideas suggestions and different perspectives which makes sure

we keep up to date with what young people are interested in and can benefit from.

As well as this many Blueprint 22 members have had the opportunity to visit places outside of our usual working area (e.g. London, Leeds, Rye) it has been really exciting to be a part of this and see them enjoy, learn and gain a lot from their new experiences.

New Youth Chair Grant

All the applications were very good and the applicants who didn't receive the money were told of alternative ways of funding for the their projects.

The project which was chosen was something completely different to any project that has been done and the applicant was someone who hasn't had the opportunity to run a project before.

Monies raised at the Youth Chair Event - Caribbean Fete were used to fund this new grant scheme.

What people say about our work

Katy Bourne: Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner

I was really pleased to be invited to the Blueprint 22 awards evening to formally present my Safer in Sussex Community Fund contribution to the Our Town Bognor Regis project.  It was very rewarding  to see all the young people  involved in the project getting  well deserved recognition for their individual and joint  efforts.

It was one of the more creative  applications we have received - an ambition by local young people to produce a guide to youth activities in the town - and  I was delighted to be able to allocate some of the Safer in Sussex Community Fund to help them achieve this. I was particularly struck by the focus on  highlighting opportunities for young people to get actively involved in their community and to develop their self-confidence, their  career aspirations and  sense of purpose and I am pleased to see it succeeding.

Vicki Litherland: Heart Research UK

Blueprint 22’s ‘Get up, Stand Up’ project funded by Heart Research UK is spreading heart healthy messages to young people in West Sussex.   Its great to hear that one individual, Shannon has been so inspired she has decided to give up smoking and has even taken on the role of a leader for the project and hopes to help others quit too. The team have done such a fantastic job engaging with young people with walking treasure hunts and cookery sessions.

Sophie Stockdale: O2 Think Community & Partnerships ManagerBlueprint 22 have been an O2 Think Big youth partner for the last 3 years. Think Big aims to inspire, support and enable young people (13-25 year olds) with great ideas; so they can have an impact in their local community,  while getting the hands on experience and skills they need to thrive in today’s digital world. Blueprint’s hard work and commitment to young people from all

backgrounds has enabled us as a programme to support many inspiring young people with amazing ideas. Think Big truly values the partnership with Blueprint 22 and we look forward to working together in the future.

#youngpeoplemakingithappen 23

Page 24: Blueprint 22 Annual Report - April 14-March 15 · Blueprint 22 Annual Report - April 14-March 15

Vinny Ganley: Grow Wild England Partnership Manager

Grow Wild is led by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and funds projects it believes will inspire people who would not normally engage with wild flowers, especially young people, to get involved and transform their spaces.

The Scentimental Journey Project from Blueprint 22 is for us, is an excellent example of an inspirational organisation supporting young people to achieve something amazing and at the same

time, benefit other people in need.  We are really impressed with the methods of Blueprint 22 and how this can set up young people for life.

Miller Ashton: Young Person

I joined Blueprint 22 after I found out about it and thought it would be good as I wasn't very confident around others. I have been involved in many different projects in Blueprint 22 like What’s Your Flavour, Scentimental Journey, Take A Hike, Conflicting Views and many more. The trips have helped me with my confidence and meeting new people. I have come out and I am meeting different people and making new friends.

Catherine Attwood: Charity Coordinator

Blueprint 22 were a valuable part of the Worthing Community Chest Appraisal Panel in 2014/15. After receiving a grant from us in 2013 we were very pleased to have them join our panel. Their experience of applying for grants made them very valuable members of the panel. They reviewed all applications thoroughly, and even did background research into the applicants! Their level-

headedness came through when discussing applicants, covering both the positives and negatives of each application. Veronica and Kirsty helped the panel come to some excellent decisions about who should be awarded a grant and how much they should receive.

Una Palmer: Executive Director BMI Goring Hall Hospital

As technology improves, survivorship from cancer also improves and the quality of a patients journey becomes the most important aspect. BMI goring hall hospital in partnership with Blueprint 22 are in the process of creating a patient sensory garden which will improve the patient journey even more. We have been impressed with the energy and sensitivity which the group of young people have brought to the project. We are looking

forward to seeing the finished results and our patients benefiting from experience of the new space.

Andrew Howes: Young Person

I first encountered Blueprint 22 in 2014 whilst living in supported housing. Blueprint 22 operated a smoothie making workshop which we all enjoyed.

For me this was a bit of a turning point as I wasn’t the type to get involved in things I didn’t have to and didn’t have much confidence or the desire to socialise.

Since then I have found the ability to draw confidence at even the most unlikely times which has benefited me a lot. I have enjoyed taking part in the cooking classes, learning sign language and meeting the wonderful people who take part in there projects.

My name is Gary I have background in health care. I've just become a director and health and well being advisor for Blueprint 22. Blueprint 22 allows me to work with motivated young people who are making positive changes in their own lives as well as changing the perception which some people have about young people.

Emmer Davis: Volunteer Football Coach

GOODBYE Debbie Kennard: Former Chair & Director of Blueprint 22 and West Sussex County Council Deputy Cabinet Member for Children

The three years I spent with Blueprint 22 were an incredible journey of discovery, not only of my own talents but of the remarkable abilities of the young people we worked with.

It was a beautiful thing to be part of and to give others the opportunity to find out who they were, to help them grow and change. Each of us dreamt about our future and the type of person we want to be and through Blueprint 22 our dreams became a reality.

I can honestly say Blueprint 22 changed my life and it will continue to be a positive vehicle for young people to be themselves, dream big, achieve greatness and most of all keep it real!

Although I may no longer be with Blueprint 22 on a daily basis, I will always remain a member of that incredible family.

Natalie Shambrook: Blueprint 22 Trustee

Natalie put a lot of energy into art and craft with great enthusiasm as she enjoyed it so much and absolutely loved to share the experience. She would do anything for anyone, no matter how difficult or challenging, she took it on board with gusto. Cheerfully Natalie would battle on, without complaint.

Young people who suffer greatly have the incentive to be adult and Natalie was no exception. She loved designing things, making costumes, logos etc. Being part of Blueprint 22 was exhilarating for her.
