Pastor’s column

New pastor encouragesus to re-visit our visionstatement

Greetings and Salutations in the Lord!

Clara and I are beyond excited to be joining the BBCfamily in service to our Lord and new church family.I feel the Lord has a great work to do in Byromvillethrough BBC and I hope that excites all of you.

During the Search Committee interviews I shared thatthe Lord was so very much present in my day to daywalk that one day at lunch I sat down and just askedHim: “Lord, if called to BBC what would you haveme do to serve you?” My prayer was answered inless than a minute! I found myself on the computerlooking at the BBC website reading the visionstatement. The Lord simply said: “This”.

Vision: Byromville Baptist Church seeks to create anatmosphere where people can learn, understand andapply God's word to their daily lives. Through theresulting Christian growth of the members, unsavedpeople are brought to a personal saving relationshipwith Christ through lifestyle evangelism, personalwitnessing and missions. Believers are encouraged tofellowship and develop a passion for Christ and HisChurch. The growing congregation supports andnurtures continual spiritual growth and discipleship.

I encourage each of you to re-visit this visionstatement and ask the Lord where you can serve.Where does your gifts, talents and interest lie in yourservice? (Romans 12:1,2) I ask each of you to searchyour heart and find your place of service.

My prayer is God will use me to always bring a freshword to inspire your service and love for the Lord,His Church, fellow Believers and the lost and un-churched in our community. If we devote ourselves toHis service, we will see some exciting times inByromville at the Church on the hill.

In His love,

Bro. Ed

Fresh ideas for Father's Dayby Diana Davis

A Christian dad impacts his family and the world! Afew fresh ideas for dads:

Create father/child traditionsBegin traditions: birthday breakfast with dad,father/daughter date, annual father/son adventure, read Sunday funnies together. Share a hobby withyour child (fish, collect rocks, golf, and woodwork.)

Make lifetime memories with family vacations.Tight budget? Do a back yard campout.

Pray for your childKneel by your sleeping child's bed. Pray for yourchild as you drive to work, or before you get up eachday. Remind your child of your prayers. Pray together at bedtime. Pray aloud with your childas you drive to school. Pray in crisis. Pray aboutspecific needs/blessings (e.g., peers, new puppy.)

Invest time in your child's lifeChild-rearing days encompass only about 1/4 ofyour life. There are no do-overs, so invest wisely.Secret: Hit the TV remote's off button.

Offer to substitute in your child's Sunday schoolclass.

Spend a minimum of 10 focused minutes with yourchild daily. Take a walk, shoot baskets, go for a soda, play a board game. Listen. Comfort. Make eyecontact. Speak wisdom.

Be your home's spiritual leaderEnthusiastically initiate family commitment to God,His Word & His church. Help your child know Jesusas personal Savior.

Get caught studying God's Word. Show it's apriority in your life. Occasionally handwrite aScripture on a note card to give to your child.

Teach your child. When? Deut. 11:18-21 says toteach your child God's ways when you sit, walk, layor stand. Oh, you're doing that right now...Get busy!

Encourage your childShow family affection. Hug. Laugh together.Delight in your child. Say "I love you" with feeling.Speak only positive words about him to others. Be the parent. Your child needs a father, not justanother "buddy."

Offer sincere compliments often. Discover yourchild's spiritual gifts and help develop them.

Love your wifeIt's one of the best things you can do for your child, and you're teaching how to treat his or her futurespouse. Let your child see you show genuine affectionto mom, compliment her, pray with her, brag abouther and laugh together. Tell your child today the story of how you met andfell in love with your wife.

Serve God togetherSet an example of joyful service to God. Find waysto include your child, i.e. homebound visit, churchwork day.

Watch for a new project at church; sign up to do ittogether.

Be a man of integrityMemorize this verse: "I will lead a life of integrityin my own home" Psalm 101:2. Guard your reputationvigilantly.

"The glory of children is their fathers" Proverbs17:6b.
