California Rodeo SalinasGives to JCCF and Other Charities

P Helotes Festival Rodeo in Helotes, Texas has supported JCCF for 10 years! Their $1,048 donation this year brought their total contributions to $12,795 since 2004. Thanks to everyone involved with this generous long-term support! P St. Johns Lutheran Church in Killdeer, ND took up an of-fering to donate to JCCF, what a blessing the more than $700 they collected is! P Great to see some of our recipients seeing great success after healing! Jeffrey Ramagos who suffered serious facial inju-ries in March at the Okeechobee, FL PRCA Rodeo is back riding bulls and has had great suc-cess including tying to win St. Paul, Oregon and winning West Jordan, UT. We are happy to see him seeing great success after suffering serious facial injuries! P Vaughn Wilson with Hawk Crest Publishing writes and publishes childrens books that teach children about history, geography, American culture, music, and art. Two of his great books Bronco Sam and The Mustang and Lecile and the Racing Mule are wonderful books that Vaughn has designat-ed as fund-raisers for JCCF, he donates a portion of each book to JCCF. You can purchase at www.unklehokum.com.

The Bob Feist Invitational has long been a supporter of the Justin Cowboy Cri-sis Fund, they have teamed up with Priefert to have a drawing for the beautiful custom roping chute. Heel-O-Matic has joined in the fund-raising efforts in the last few years by donating product to be auctioned off. This year’s fund-raising efforts netted $8000! Photo: Left to right: Daren Peterson with BFI, Bill Bertleson, President of the Reno Rodeo, Bob Feist, Corky Ullman with BFI and accepting a check on behalf of JCCF are the Justin Sportsmedicine Team’s Travis Kieckbusch, MD and Chris Swanner, ATC

The California Rodeo Association presented non-profit groups with over $220,000 in funds at the Salinas Sports Complex on Thursday August 21st at their Director Meeting and dinner. Each year several non-profit groups work at various events held at the Salinas Sports Complex. The California Rodeo also donated over $2000 to JCCF representing tips from bars at the rodeo.

Cowboy Reunion tops $80,000 in JCCF Support

George Strait Team Roping Nets $6000 for JCCF

The official newsletter of the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund 3

We can’t thank our friends at Priefert Manufacturing enough for teaming up with JCCF supporter George Strait to raise funds for the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund each year! The auction at the George Strait Team Roping Classic generates valuable funds to allow us to continue giving injured rodeo athletes “a hand up.” A huge thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hatch of Winslow, Arizona for purchasing the chute and George and Norma Strait for sending a $6000 donation to JCCF from the fund-raiser! If you are thinking of are-nas, chutes or other ranch equip-ment check out our friends at Priefert and thank them for supporting JCCF!

Dodge City Bounty Bull Benefits JCCF!

The Dodge City Roundup Bounty Bull Program started about 10 years ago when Doc Trotter wanted to find a way for their rodeo to support JCCF. Initially Doc Trotter found five doctors who would put up $500 on the bounty bull. If it was a qualified ride then the doctor gave the money to the JCCF. The program has expanded to nine rides and some non-physician participation. If the ride is not covered the money goes on the finals ride. We often have as much as $2000 on the finals, even if the cowboy does not have a qualified ride the sponsors donate anyway! It has been a great way for spon-sors to get name recognition at a time when we have the full attention of the crowd. This year’s Bounty Bull sponsors: Drs: RC Trotter, Jeremy Presley, Tanya Williams, Merrill Conant, Eric Hetzel, Chris Miller, and James Moffitt and Dr. Phillips a Chiroprac-tor, and Sharon Stroberg-General Manager of the Boothill Casino and Resort. Dr. Trot-ter stated: “We feel it is important to give back to the sport of rodeo and to support those cowboys who need some help.”

The Cowboy Reunion is a special event that is held each December in Las Vegas dur-ing the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Liz Kelser and a great committee of volunteers offer a wonderful opportunity for past PRCA members to catch up and they have made it into a hugely successful fund-raiser donat-ing more than $80,000 to JCCF through the years. Additionally they make donations to other rodeo related non-pro fits. A check for $5000 was presented to JCCF at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame Inductions. JUSTIN COWBOY CRISIS FUNDWith no guaranteed salaries or injured reserve provisions in the sport of rodeo, these professional athletes are often left with no place to turn when faced with serious, sidelining injuries and the accompanying financial hardship.

Recognizing that serious injuries can be traumatic enough without the additional burden of financial worries, the Justin Boot Company formed a partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) in 1989 to establish the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF).

The JCCF’s premise is to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of catastrophic injuries. The fund fills the void of financial hardship when the inevitable serious injury interferes with the careers of those who have dedicated their lives to the sport.

Assistance awards are based on the severity of injury, the number of dependents and the applicant’s financial situation. The Fund also takes into consideration the individual’s involvement in and/or contribution to the sport of professional rodeo.

Unique among today’s numerous charitable organizations, the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund stands above the rest by dedicating 100% of all contributions received for disbursement to eligible applicants. This uncommon practice for a charitable organization is made possible by the joint commitment of the Justin Boot Company and the PRCA, which underwrite all administrative costs associated with managing the JCCF, leaving all monies received through contributions (and as investment earnings) to serve their intended purpose.

It’s a hand up, not a hand out.
