Our students are always a highlight as we see their excitement and joy in sharing their classes with friends and family. I would like to thank our Asia Night team who have put a great deal of effort and energy into planning such a large event. We also would like to thank our Parents and Friends who last week were amazing in providing a Father’s Day stall and then helped with Asia Night this week. I would also like to thank all of those who dressed up and braved the cold weather to celebrate with us.

I am reminded of how dedicated our community is to see our students flourish.

Thank you

Wendy Matear

Principal

Welcome to our Week 7, special ‘Asia Night’ newsletter. This week we held our biennial celebration that explores our studies of Asia and brings to life some of the learning we have been exploring in our classes. The weather had not been in our favour and we were a bit nervous but it turned out to be an awesome night of celebration. As always, we appreciate the way that you came along to support this event. There were so many wonderful exhibits and performances happening all over the school. The atmosphere and celebration of our community was so positive, it was a testament of the hard work put in by so many.

Deputy PrincipalProcedure to Notify School of Absence

A few months ago, newspapers ran a se-ries of stories about Government action to curb truancy. Susan Close, Minister for Education and Child Development, stated, “Children have a fundamental right to receive an education and this must be our primary focus. Educational success is central to lifelong achieve-ment, wellbeing and social outcomes and prolonged periods of absence severely limit future options.”

We take school attendance seriously because we believe that every child has the right to educational success, and this cannot occur when a child misses sub-stantial amounts of time from school.

As part of our daily morning procedure,

our Administration staff are notified when a child has been marked as ‘absent without reason’ in the morning. A text message is then sent to the parent/caregiver of the child for each day the child is absent from school.

Some parents have rightly questioned why they have received a text message when they have notified the teacher of their child’s absence. To avoid future such communication breakdowns, the correct procedure is to notify the office of your child’s absence, and then they can choose to notify their child’s teacher. This will avoid any breakdown in communication, especially when a parent has made an effort to let the teacher know and this has not been communicated to the office.

Parents can also contact the Admin-istration Office in advance if they are planning absences and the absence can be recorded instead of waiting for the actual day.

Remember! If you have not notified the Administration office that your child will be absent, you will receive a text message.

I wish you and your family a wonderful week!

Father's Day Stall

BBQ tools and bottles of sauce, desk clocks and ‘love you dad’ socks, and chocolate bars and cans of Coke were just a few of the items adorning last week’s bumper Father’s Day Stall. Students excitedly jostled for the just-the-right gift to give to the special men in their lives.

Thank you to the P&F team and lovely helpers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and on the day to offer such a vast array of gifts for our students to choose from. The ambience was colourful and inviting and the students had a ball!

Thank you, too, to the many families who sent along some spending money to support their child in purchasing a gift. Without you, this sort of an event would not be possible.

Funds raised from this event will go towards our current play-based projects which include nature play spaces and shade sails.

What to do when my child will be

absent from school …
