Das ROyAL COLLEGE OF ART (London) erforschte für Bene die unterschiedlichen Tätigkeiten der Solution Worker und entwickelte daraus vier Typen:DEn AnChOR, DEn COnnECTOR, DEn GAThERER UnD DEn nAVIGATOR. Sie unterscheiden sich voneinander vor allem in Mobilität und Aktions- radius innerhalb und außerhalb des Büros.

Solution Workers need a working environment that promotes networking and information exchange. In addition to supporting their daily operations, they require an office landscape that feeds the creativity needed to achieve innovation.

Bene’s recent research project in collaboration with The ROyAL COLLEGE OF ART, London, was based on the working activities of the Solution Workers. It determined four key typologies: ThE AnChOR, ThE COnnECTOR, ThE GAThERER And ThE nAVIGATOR. Each have different office user-traits, showing contrasts primarily in the areas of mobility and »spheres of influence« both in and outside the office.

Wer fast den ganzen Tag an seinem Arbeitsplatz verbringt, benötigt eine auf seine Bedürfnisse zu-geschnittene Lösung mit hohem Komfort. Design, Akustik und Ergonomie müssen stimmen. Der Arbeitstisch sollte anpas-sungsfähig sein – sowohl für Tätigkeiten am Computer als auch für kurze Gesprä-che mit Kunden und Kollegen. We-Places in der nähe des Arbeitsplatzes fördern den Teamspirit und den Austausch mit Kollegen.

Anchors sind typischerweise Produktions- manager, Desktop-Researcher, F&E-Ver- antwortliche, Buchhalter etc.

Anchors prefer a fixed workplace in the office where they spend the majority of their time. One thing they don’t need is noise. Being disturbed by other peoples’ phone conversations throws their concentration completely. Acoustic shielding is essential for the Anchor. Spending almost the entire day at their workplace, the Anchor users need a solution custom-made to their needs that incorporates a high level of comfort. The design, acoustics and ergonomics have to be right. The desk needs to be adaptable, working perfectly for activities based on the computer as well as brief meetings with customers and colleagues. For Anchors, We-Places become key areas around the workplace promoting team spirit and inspiring information exchange with colleagues.

They are typically production managers, desktop researchers, accountants, and those responsible for R&d, etc.

Rund die hälfte seiner Zeit ist der Connector am eigenen Schreibtisch tätig. Die andere hälfte ist er im Bürogebäude unterwegs – zu einem Kollegen, zum Meetingraum, in die Cafeteria oder zum Stand-Up Meeting. Er managt den Infor-mationsfluss, holt Informationen ein und verteilt diese.

Der Connector ist als Inhouse-Wanderer räumlich flexibel und nützt alle Zonen und Bereiche des Büros. Er verbringt einen großen Teil seiner Arbeitszeit in Meetings und ist permanent damit be-schäftigt, Wissen zu transportieren – so-lange dies innerhalb des Unternehmens stattfindet. Die Räume und Möbel sollen die Vielfältigkeit seiner Tätigkeit unter-stützen, vor allem funktional und deshalb unkompliziert und flexibel sein.

Connector sind z. B. Researcher, Planer, Anwälte oder Software-Entwickler.

Connectors work at their desks for around 50 % of their working hours. The other 50 % is spent around the office building—meeting colleagues, on their way to a meeting room, to the cafeteria or to a stand-up meeting. They manage the flow of information, gathering and distributing it as required.

Connectors are the in-house wanderers: their spatial needs are flexible, using all of the zones and areas within the office. Spending the majority of their time in meetings, they are constantly working on the transportation of knowledge—all within the company walls. The workspaces and furnishings must support the diversity of the Connectors activities and need to be functional, uncomplicated and flexible.

Connectors are typically researchers, planners, attorneys or software developers.

Der Gatherer ist oft auch außerhalb des Bürogebäudes unterwegs. Kundenbesuche und Meetings mit Geschäftspartnern bestimmen seinen Arbeitsalltag. Für die Zeit, die er im Büro verbringt, benötigt er Bereiche, in denen er sich konzentrieren kann. Ruhige Plätze wie Denkerzellen, Touchdown-Bereiche oder Rekreations-Zonen schaffen das nötige Umfeld um ungestört zu arbeiten. Aber der Gatherer braucht im Büro auch Orte für Kommuni-kation und Interaktion. Er ist »Knoten- punkt des Wissens« und wählt die Zonen und Bereiche, an denen er tätig ist, ent-sprechend seiner Arbeitsabläufe aus.

Gatherer, das sind typischerweise Junior Consultants, Designer, Marketing-Mana-ger etc.

Gatherers spend a lot of their time outside the office building. Their workdays are defined by meeting clients and colleagues, however when they are in the office, Gatherers need a place to concentrate. Think Tanks, Touchdown areas, recreation zones and areas where they are not disturbed—these are the environments required by the Gatherers, not forgetting key areas for communication and interaction. They are »knowledge hubs«, choosing the areas where they work according to their current needs.

Gatherers are typically junior consultants, designers, marketing managers etc.

Der Schwerpunkt seiner Tätigkeit besteht vor allem aus Kommunikation und der Ver- arbeitung von Informationen zu Wissen. Das gemeinsam mit der Fachhochschule hagenberg ent-wickelte Tool wird zum zentralen Ort für das gemeinsame Bearbeiten digitaler Dateien. Die niCE Wall ermöglicht erstmals die einfache Kombination digitaler Inhalte mit traditionellen Medien wie Flipchart, Post-it etc.

Meetings, Brainstormings und Präsentationen finden direkt an der niCE Wall statt und machen Teamwork effizienter. Die User-Interfaces basierende Wall erlaubt eine Interaktion von bis zu sieben Personen. Wie kein anderes Medium ermöglicht die niCE Wall eine nahtlose, generationenübergreifende Integration verschiedener Arbeitsweisen. Die Konstruktion rahmenlos und bis zu 30 Meter frei skalierbar.

The niCE Wall was developed in collaboration with the Austrian university of Applied Sciences Fh hagenberg. It is a centre for the group editing of digital files—an innovative item that combines digital content with traditional equipment such as flip chart, Post-it, etc.

It ensures efficient teamwork during meetings, brainstorming and presentations. The Wall is based on user interfaces and enables up to seven participants to interact with each other. This unprecedented medium ensures the smooth and intergenerational integration of different work styles. Its construction is frameless and is scalable up to 30 meters.
