It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Belmont Intermediate School.

Belmont Intermediate is a learning community which focuses on meeting the needs of the emerging adolescent and raising student achievement for all. As a school we are future focused and understand the need to ensure that students develop key dispositions for life long learning so they can continue to grow and develop as individuals and learners.

Students are presented with a range of academic, cultural and sporting opportunities to promote their individual development. There is an expectation that students will strive for excellence; to be the best that they can be in all their school endeavours.

The school expects high standards of behaviour and positive interaction with adults and peers. Students are expected to aspire to the traditional values of showing respect, taking responsibility for and demonstrating commitment to their learning and acting in a caring way towards others.

The school believes that student learning is enhanced when there is a close liaison between the home and school. Parents are encouraged to continue being active participants in their childs learning and development. There are a number of opportunities throughout the year for parents, students and teachers to discuss student achievement and progress. Teachers are available at other times when there are particular issues of concern.

Our Teachers

Our TeachersChallenge and inspire every childAs part of the Belmont Learning Community teachers work collaboratively to plan and deliver innovative, relevant programmes that engage and inspire students. Each teaching and learning team consists of three teachers at the same year level. This organisation ensures that the learning needs of all students within teaching and learning teams are catered for. Teachers insist on high standards of behavior at all times.

The school's highly qualified and proficient teachers actively engage in reflective practice to foster continuous professional learning. This ensures current trends in education are incorporated to enhance their practice and provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students.

6Our CurriculumBelmont Intermediate School fulfills the requirements of the National Curriculum. In homeroom classes students are taught English, mathematics, physical education, health and PE and inquiry based learning. Specialist lessons include technology, the arts, science, Japanese and Mandarin.

The school recognises that not all students learn at the same pace. There are enrichment programmes in English, mathematics, science, sports, the arts and technology. Specifically qualified teachers and teacher aides assist students who require learning support and enhancement programmes are provided in mathematics and English.

Our school core competencies stress that all students are expected to take an active part in their learning. Reflection and personal goal setting are features of our school curriculum. Teachers support this process by vigorously providing students with feedback on their performance, enabling them to take the next steps in their learning.
