Family Activity Night

The evening of Thursday, May 15th was Shaw’s 2

nd ever Family Activity Night. This night featured an

introductory cricket session done by Aussie X. As the participants took part in a variety of activities,

the laughter and excitement echoed through the Shaw gym. Attendees also checked out the com-

munity partner booths by Brampton Cricket League, Peel Public Health, the Chinguacousy Wellness

Centre and Bramalea Boys Softball to learn more about physical activity opportunities that are of-

fered in Brampton. Thank you to those families that came out and had some fun with us; we hope to

see you all next time.

Shaw Walks

The students of Shaw Public School have been doing a great job at participating in the I-Walk pro-

gram by walking to and from school and at recess times. The numbers of students that have been

walking with the Walking School Bus on the first Wednesday of each month has been increasing as

well. Our final walking school bus takes place on Wednesday, June 4th. Students that have been

participating have been filling out an I-walk card and those that have walked for 50 days have

handed in their card for a chance to win a prize. Congratulations to the following students who had

their names drawn for a prize in the month of May for completing 50 days of walking:

Abigail – DR2 Rovin – JD5 Balpreet – W12 Ishaan – C34

SHAW IS OFFICIALLY A CERTIFIED ECO-SCHOOL!!!

Thanks to all of the hard work by the Environmental Team, on May 14th, Shaw was officially de-

clared an Eco-School! A representative from Ontario Eco-Schools came for a visit where she spoke

to a few members of our Environmental Team (Anmol, Inderprit, Ghania, Avneet) about our eco-

friendly initiatives at Shaw. She was particularly interested in our recycling program and our motiva-

tional awards of the "Golden Lamp" and "Golden Recycling Bin". Thank you to all the students and

teachers at Shaw who have tried hard every day to save energy and recycle properly. Some of the

things that we have worked hard at implementing this year are: weekly Friday announcements,

tracking classroom recycling and energy use, the Great Gulp challenge, the monthly "Golden"

awards, presentations at assemblies, various class field trips, and the annual spring clean-up for

Earth Day. We hope to continue all of these in the next school year and we also look forward to im-

plementing some new initiatives as well.

Stay green!

Love,

The Environmental Team
