Collaboration with Community Services (including Russell Library, Birth to Three, Diaper Bank)

The Middletown Even Start Family Learning Program is an NAEYC accredited program. It recognizes that a parent is the child’s first and most important teacher. We support this by bringing parents in need of adult education and their children (ages 12 weeks - 3 years) together into a dual-generational learning program. Parents and their children can share the excitement and joy of learning together! Even Start Family Learning provides early childhood education and adult academic instruction, including college preparation, job certificate programs, and job search assistance. It supports the parent-child relationship and enhances parenting skills through parenting classes and daily parent and child activities.

This program prepares adult learners to pass the 4-part, computer-based GED® exam to earn a State of Connecticut High School diploma. Students receive instruction in each of four subject areas: science, social studies, math and reading/language arts as well as basic computer skills. Instructors will also review the official website, ged.com where students can access related exam information and exam registration procedures. Students must be at least 17 years old and officially withdrawn from school to enroll in the GED® preparation classes listed here. To be able to register for the GED® exam, students must be at least 17 years old and officially withdrawn from school for 6 months, and 17 year-olds must submit a withdrawal form with a parent or guardian signature. Individuals who are 18 years of age may submit, in lieu of a withdrawal form, a letter from their last high school that the class with which they entered ninth grade (or would have entered if never enrolled in high school) has already graduated. Students can begin the GED® registration process online at ged.com and complete the process in person at Middletown Adult Education, 398 Main Street, Middletown, CT.

The GED® preparation program is designed for people who have not completed their high school education. You can prepare to take the GED® exam through our free classes. If you are ready to earn your State of Connecticut High School diploma through the GED® exam, call (860) 343-6048 to begin intake and registration today! You will not be able to combine your previous GED® scores from prior tests with the new GED® 2014 test. Please note: as of January 2, 2014, the new GED® test will be administered on the computer. For more information please go to: www.GED.com

“Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.”

—CHAIMAE MAMJOUD

Chaimae Mamjourd emigrated from Italy to the United States in 2016. Chaimae wasted no time, and in the fall of 2016, she enrolled in our intermediate ESL class at Middletown Adult Education. She attended her ESL class every day and worked hard in class. Through her perseverance, consistent practice, and excellent attendance, she progressed to a higher level and enrolled in GED preparation classes. Chaimae began GED preparation in September 2019 and concurrently enrolled her two children in Middletown Adult Education’s Even Start Family Literacy Program. Chaimae enjoys coming to school to read and to study, and each day, she demonstrates her enthusiasm and her unwavering commitment. This persistent approach has rewarded her in passing three official GED tests-Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. In addition to her recent success, Chaimae is studying to become a United States citizen. When Chaimae graduates from Middletown Adult Education and earns her GED diploma, she plans to study phlebotomy at Middlesex Community College.
