Good Luck at Nationals Swimming Today, Riley M (6L) is heading to nationals for swimming. Riley is competing in six events: 50m and 100m breastroke; 50m and 100m butterfly; 200m individual medley and the medley relay. This is a major achievement for Riley and, as a school, we are extremely proud of him. Good luck Riley. Learning on Show - Education Week Open Day Next Wednesday 7 August we will be opening classes between 9.30 – 11.30 and finishing with a picnic to celebrate Education Week. At 8:30a.m. selected students will be demonstrating some of our new technology that is online from the Department’s STEMSHARE library. For those who can, please add this morning to your calendar. As parking is always at a premium, on days where visitors attend the school, please consider parking and walking to alleviate congestion in the surrounding streets. See below for further details. VOTE 1 Beecroft PS Please VOTE 1 for Beecroft Public School’s proposal at https://mycommunityproject.service.nsw.gov.au/ (click on Epping Electorate and scroll down to Beecroft Public School). Local organisations were invited to propose projects which the community has the chance to vote for. Our P&C has put forward a wonderful project that could see the multi-purpose court resurfaced and a Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) built. We need EVERY parent to vote! We need EVERY neighbour and EVERY friend of Beecroft PS to vote! Before you click on the following link, you will need your MyServiceNSW log-in details and your Medicare Card. The process takes time, but it is worth it. VOTE now. Voting closes 15 August! (Only the project with the highest number of votes will obtain funding) Mary Street - ‘No Parking’ = Kiss and Drop (2 minute time limit) This is a friendly reminder that the ‘No Parking’ zones on Copeland Road and Mary Street, allow drivers to stop for a maximum of 2 minutes to drop off and pick up passengers. Drivers must stay in their cars and must move on after stopping for 2 minutes. In particular, to assist the flow of traffic in Mary Street, we ask that you consider entering Mary Street after 3:30p.m. to give students time to be ready for collection so that you can move on promptly. Our senior executive monitor Mary Street at 3:25p.m. to assist students to move safely to their cars and to ensure the traffic keeps flowing. Park and Walk Maps Please see the park and walk maps attached with this newsletter. These maps provide alternatives for parents who are keen to park away from the school and enjoy some walking and talking time with their children.

Deputy Principal’s Report Education Week On Wednesday 7 August 2019 we will be celebrating Education Week with an Open Day, highlighting that Every Student, Every Voice matters at Beecroft Public School. This is a day of celebrating student empowerment and how the NSW public education system gives students the skills they need in order to have and express a voice during their own educational journey and as engaged global citizens. To demonstrate how “Every Student, Every Voice” is embedded into Beecroft’s school culture, when you visit your child’s classroom on Wednesday, every classroom across the school will be focusing on feedback and writing. Feedback to students is one of the top 10 influences on student achievement. Feedback is an essential part of effective learning. It helps students understand the subject and gives them clear guidance on how to improve their learning. Feedback can also improve a student's confidence, self-awareness and enthusiasm for learning. On the day, visitors will also have an opportunity to find out further information on different strategies that teachers employ to create an environment of Every Student, Every Voice. Throughout the school there will be Every Student, Every Voice Information Boards, providing examples of specific strategies and how they can impact on all students’ learning. We will also be demonstrating the STEMShare kits, a Department of Education toolkit that we have borrowed for the term that allows students to develop and explore innovative thinking and experimentation using technology such as OZOBOTs, EV3 Robots, Makey Makey, Microbits and a 3D printer. The robots will be on display in the hall from 8:55 – 9:30a.m. and is a adults’ only event. The 3D printer will also be on display in the front office. Please bring a picnic to share with your child at the conclusion of the Open Classrooms. Just a reminder that any food brought should be in accordance with our School’s Anaphylaxis Policy. Education Week Agenda 8:55 – 9:30a.m.: STEMShare Showcase - Hall, (adults’ only event) 9:30-10:10a.m.: K-2 Open Classrooms 10:15-10:45a.m.: 3-6 Open Classrooms 11:00-12:00p.m.: Picnic in the K-2 playground and band performances 12:00p.m.: Conclusion of Open Day

Holiday Sporting Achievements What a great holiday many of you had, representing our school in various competitions. Below is a rundown of all the fun!

Beecroft Equestrian Team (of 1) at the Tamworth Inter-schools Horse Extravaganza There were 500 horses and 700 horse/rider combinations from around the State and interstate competing over four days. Pretty intense! The standard was very high but Emma C (5G) and her dashing horse, Archie, went their hardest and placed about mid-field in most events. Emma and a friend also went in the ‘hoof n woof’, a horse + dog agility competition in costume. Pony was fine but the dog lost interest half way, tripped Emma who face planted in the sand and ripped up his costume. We didn’t place in that event....

NSW Inter-schools Skiing Competition Annabelle, Annaliese and Zachary (Year 3) from BPS skied in the NSW Inter-schools Competition in Perisher these holidays. It was a cold and snowy week with difficult conditions for younger racers, but they all competed in events across Alpine and Skier X for Beecroft Public School. Next year the event will be held in the July school holidays in Thredbo for anyone thinking of getting involved. Thank you to Annabelle’s mum for the snow report!

Eco Corner Report Knights kept busy harvesting and prepping gardens With our year 6 contingent off to plant trees with the Council at lunch, greening group was moved to recess last Friday. After the holiday break, there was lots of produce to harvest, and the knights kept busy getting all their jobs done. This week we will be prepping the garden for new seedlings for spring.

National tree planting day Thank you to the Council for letting our elder garden knights be part of the national tree planting day. The knights joined the Council in planting some new native trees, shrubs and grasses at Lyne Road Park. This planting is the beginning of the rehabilitation of the middle section of the park which is overgrown with weeds. Over time, the middle section will be cleared of the privet and weeds and replanted with local native plants.

NSW Healthy School Canteen Strategy This strategy aims to “support student health and wellbeing by increasing the availability of healthy food and drinks in school canteens, to help make the healthy choice the easy choice for students”. As we bring the Beecroft Public School Canteen in line with the new guidelines to be met by the end of 2019, we are adjusting the menu and availability of various food options. We would appreciate your understanding and support as we alter the menu to meet these requirements. Thank you. Come join our committee! Do you have great ideas on how we can make our great canteen a better canteen for our students? Would you like to see these ideas come to fruition? Our canteen sub-committee is part of the P&C committee and is made up of volunteer parents/carers who are committed to keep striving to make the school’s canteen running bigger and better! School Banking

Regular Hours: Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

It was an exciting afternoon at the K-2 assembly last week with a visit from Pru. Children were congratulated for consistently saving over the first two terms. 114 K-2 children participate in school banking on a regular basis. Well done to class 2H for having the most regular visitors to school banking. The children also told us about the helpful jobs they do around the house to earn their pocket money, such as sorting the laundry and emptying the dishwasher. Going by the number of hands put up for completing these jobs, there are a lot of very organised homes in Beecroft. Reminder that children should deposit their bank books in the banking window before going to class in the mornings, or dropping off at the BOOSH banking box before 9:00a.m. if they attend BOOSH on a Thursday.
