Term 2 has again been very productive, towards the end of term the

students have been fortunate to have been involved in various activities

that have been organised by teaching staff.

Athletics and Cross Country carnivals have been occurring this term with a

portion of our students participating and performing to high standards. Our

students always represent the school with pride and sportsmanship and it

is a pleasure to witness these students’ achievements. I would also like to

thank parents who drive students to these events, without parent support

many of these events would not be accessible to many of our students.

Students have also participated in netball at Leeton and a futsal

competition at Wagga Wagga, thank you to Ms Beattie and Mr Bell for

taking our students to these competitions. We were also fortunate for some of our students to be

involved in the Next Wave Film Festival.

Students who attained Gold Level this semester had their Wellbeing Celebration lunch on Monday,

congratulations to these students and continue with the work ethic that you have shown this

semester.

Reports were given to students today, there will be a parent/teacher evening Week 3 on Tuesday

6 August 2019 from 3.15 pm until 5.30 pm, for parents to engage with their students teachers to

discuss reports and any concerns they may have for their child. Further information will follow next

term.

Our school has been appointed a permanent primary teacher, Miss Aleisha Singleton will be

joining us first day back Term 3 and she will be teaching the Year 2/3/4 class. Miss Singleton is

very excited to be coming to Batlow and has already met some of our Primary students.

The students enjoyed the Naidoc activities that were presented by Shane Herrington and Talea

Bulger, string making, ochre face painting, fire making, boomerang throwing and the didgeridoo

kept the students busy all day and many thanks to our presenters for introducing our students to

some of the traditional culture of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for

Naidoc week this year is:

Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future.

First week back, Thursday 25 July 2019 in Term 3 at 10.30 am there will be an Official Sport

Assembly held in the Sharni Williams OAM Hall in memory of Mrs Vicki Dodd. All parents and

carer’s are welcome to attend.

Enjoy the break with your family, rest and stay warm and we look forward to welcoming all

students back to school on Tuesday 23 July 2019.

WELLBEING REWARDS LUNCHEON

Congratulations to all those students who received the Gold Merit Award this term. These students

celebrated this achievement with a rewards luncheon on Monday, where students enjoyed pizza,

poppers and a zooper dooper.

For those students who missed out this time, there is always next time, when students who

receive Platinum will celebrate with another Wellbeing Rewards Day.

Keep up the great effort!

PRIMARY TENNIS LESSONS

During Term 2, Primary students in Kindergarten to Year 6 were fortunate enough to participate in

six weeks of tennis lessons with Bernadette Cahill. Students had a fantastic time learning new

skills and refining these over the six weeks of lessons.

This opportunity was provided to students thanks to funding granted through the Sporting Schools

Initiative. A huge thank you to Mr Kass who helped Miss Fallon with the application and the

coordination of these lessons.

Thank You! Bernadette Cahill and Levi

PREMLIMINARY DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Preliminary Design and Technology students became bridge designers this term, endeavouring to

determine the strongest construction. Spanning a gap of 600 mm using just balsa wood and PVA

to build their bridge, testing proves both entertaining and informative. For one bridge, weights in

excess of 13 kg were reached before the failure of the deck whilst the trusses remained intact -

“Gotta love those triangles”. This proved a valuable experience in engineering, design and

construction.

AGRICULTURE

Term 2 saw the return of Agriculture for the Year 7 students. They have been busily weeding the

vegetable beds, surrounding grounds and harvesting pumpkins, lots of pumpkins. Many of these

were used for soup during the recent Variety Club bash visit.

Last week the students transplanted their beetroot and broccoli seedlings from punnets in the

greenhouse to the garden beds. Now the waiting begins…
