Part One The Online Labour Academy

I. WELCOME TO THE ONLINE LABOUR ACADEMY!Thank you for choosing the Online Education Service of IFWEA.Now you can:

Improve your skills in labour subjects and continue your education in a virtual environment

Control and create a study environment that fits your needs and is up to your standards.

Improve your knowledge with the help of your personal trained tutor.6

Enrolement Procedure First you have to get in touch with us, so we can register you in our educational system.

You will receive an E-Mail, giving you all the information necessary on the Online Labour Academy (OLA)

You will then receive your username and a personal password, which will enable you to log in to the virtual classroom of the IFWEA.7

2. Whats OLA Virtual Classroom ?The virtual classroom is a space where you can, at any time and from any place, access at learning materials, communicate with other members of your course and where you receive all the information required for a successful virtual learning experience. Furthermore you will find a lot of additional materials in the virtual classroom, such as useful links, interesting publications and illustrative videos, which will help you to understand your materials of study

3. RequirementsYou need a software to display pdf-files as well as an office programme that is able to process word and PowerPoint files.

Furthermore you need connection to the internet. If you dont have an internet connection at home, you can use the internet cafe.

Some of the programs we use in the virtual classroom are Adobe Reader, MS Word 2007, MS PowerPoint 2007 and MS Excel 2007.9

Part Two The Online Labour Academy

1. Entering the Online Labour AcademyYouve already received a username and your personal password? Great!

Now we can enter to the virtual classroom of the IFWEA.The internet address of the OLA is:www.ifweaonline.org

Open your internet browser and write the URL you find ahead in the address bar:

To enter to the Online Labour Academy you have to write your username and your personal password into the intended spaces.Then you click on Sign In to enter the virtual classroom.12

2. The Home PageWelcome to the home page of the OLA!When entering the platform, we access to the page of a course. This page is divided into three basic areas: Headline with the navigation bar (A), middle column with the topics of the courses (B) and blocks (C).13

The description of the course is situated under the main banner.

We are going to practice in the virtual classroom as Seor Maestro, he is a member of the course Communication for effective advocacy.

3.The Personal ProfileTo enter to the personal profile, lets click on My profile in the left column Navigation, and another one on View profile in order to view the personal profile of Seor Maestro.

Now lets click on Edit profile in the right section My profile settings in order to change the personal information15

As we can see from the view of his personal profile after edition, information has been updated. 16

4. To Insert a Profile PictureNote : The picture must be a JPG file and with a 100 x 100 pixels resolution. 17

To add a profile picture, we click on Add in the section User picture.

(You can also drag and drop files below the arrow to add them directly)

Note : If Seor Maestro wants to change his profile picture, he repeats the same process, selecting Delete before adding a new picture.

Now lets return to the homepage of the virtual classroom. To get back we have to click on Home at the top of the page.20

5. Entering the CourseTo enter the course, we just have to click on the title of the course Communication for effective advocacy, which we can see on the left side of the main banner.21

6. The Weekly OutlineThis is the main page of the course Communication for effective advocacy.In the middle of the page we can see the Weekly Outline, giving us all the important information on the content of the course.22

Note: OLA courses are organized by weeks (The Weekly Outline) or by topics.

7. Explanation of IconsAll documents in the course have their own symbol depending on its type. It help us to recognize documents much faster. A simple click on their names permits to download and open them. Lets take a look at the most important ones:24

To enter to the forum, we just have to click on the title.

Note: The forum is a medium that enables members to have asynchronous discussions.258. The Forum

b) Responding to an EntryWe can respond to an entry by clicking on Reply, underneath the text.26

In the new window we will find the text to which we want to reply on the top of the page.Underneath the entry we can see a box Your reply and we can write an answer .

9. The ChatThe chat module allows the participants to have a real-time synchronous discussion via the web.

To enter the chat of the course lets click on Chat in the weekly outline.28

In order to participate, we have to access to the course and click on Click here to enter the chat now.We can write our message in the text field and then click on Send. After a few moments it will be visible to the other online participants in the chat room.29

10. Writing a personal message

First, lets return to the main page by clicking on Home. On the right side, we can click on Messages.

We have to select the recipient of our message and click on My contacts. In the drop-down-menu, we first select the course in which we participate

31 In the next window, we will see all the members we can send our message to. To select the tutor of Seor Maestro, Julian Montoya, we just have to click on his name.

32 Here we can see that the communication is only between us and Julian Montoya.

After we write the message on the text box, we have to confirm it by clicking on Send message.

Reading a Personal Message

11.Display ones QualificationsTo see the qualifications lets click on Grades in the section Administration on the right column of the course page.34

In the example of Seor Maestro, the qualifications are divided into five parts/exercices.

Each exercise gives at most 20 points, which means the maximum score he can reach in this course is 100.

12.Responding to a questionnaireTo respond to a questionnaire, lets click on the document with the Quiz icon.36

By clicking on Begin questionnaire, we start with the survey.

Please bear in mind that in any case you should always answer all the questions given in the questionnaire.37

In the superior part we can find the navigation of the questionnaire, showing us the photo of the user as well as the total amount of questions.

On the right sight we can see the questions, with few answers to choose among.

By clicking on Next we continue with the next questions.38

When we finish a quiz and sent it to the tutor, we will receive an immediate feedback, showing us our score and a short comment.

Sometimes, you can click on Retry the quiz but it is important to know your tries could be limited.

13.Log OffFinally lets log off by clicking on Logout at the top right of the page.40
